Pine Labs increased net profit in the second quarter by 6.5 times; Cognizant revised its growth forecast for 2026

The Ministry of Finance expects India's economy to grow by 7.3% in the fiscal year 2027. This estimate, presented in the ministry's October economic review, slightly exceeds the 7.1% forecast previously published by the Reserve Bank of India. The ministry also pointed to risks such as inflation, geopolitical tensions, energy price volatility, and tightening global financial conditions, but noted that India is 'well positioned' to maintain its growth trajectory.

Meanwhile, Sridhar Vembu from Zoho cautioned everyone about the impact of artificial intelligence, stating that one smart person using AI can perform the work of ten. He wrote on X that the risk is becoming increasingly real, but this does not mean that 90% of computer workers will lose their jobs; rather, it will lead to an economic rebalancing, which will be a painful process.

Previously, at the TechSparks summit by YourStory, Vembu stated that AI could surpass 90% of coders within six months.

In the private equity sector, the firm One Planet Partners entered into a partnership with the Japanese bank Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank to launch a fund worth 300 billion rupees. This fund will focus on high-growth enterprises benefiting from the energy transition, mobility, and industrial expansion based on manufacturing in India.

In the same period last fiscal year, the company reported a net profit of 6 billion rupees and revenue of 650 billion rupees.

US-based IT company Cognizant demonstrated more than double the net profit in the third quarter of 2026, with revenue growing by 4.6%. For the third quarter of 2026, the company reported a net profit of $627 million, compared to $274 million for the same period in 2025, representing a 129% increase. Revenue reached $5.66 billion in the third quarter of 2026, up from $5.41 billion in the quarter a year earlier. Nevertheless, the company revised upward the upper bound of its annual growth forecast for 2026.

The company stated in its announcement that EBITDA in Q2FY27 reached a record 9,938 crore rupees, showing a 17 percent quarter-on-quarter growth. This growth is attributed to favorable market and regulatory factors, as well as volumes, marketing, and other advantages, although some growth was offset by increased costs.

Furthermore, the company's net debt decreased by 4,624 crore rupees quarter-on-quarter, standing at 3,675 crore rupees compared to 8,299 crore rupees in June 2026. This reduction was primarily driven by cash flow from operating activities. From July to September 2026, the company invested 1,135 crore rupees in capital expenditures for growth, accumulating a total investment of 2,283 crore rupees in the first half of the current fiscal year. He also mentioned the successful commissioning of Gamsberg Phase II in Zinc International, record chrome ore production, and 100% raw material assurance in FACOR, as well as the highest quarterly cathode output in Copper India. Misra added that the capital expenditure of 1,135 crore rupees in the second quarter was directed towards developing growth projects, expanding capacities, exploring deposits, and securing the resource base across the portfolio.

The company reported that the Zinc India business achieved a record production of mined metals in the second quarter, totaling 271 thousand tonnes, which is 5 percent higher than last year. Meanwhile, silver production increased by 20 percent, reaching 173 tonnes for the quarter.
