Amazon reviews AI usage evaluation metrics, prioritizing impact over token consumption

Amazon is reassessing how it measures the use of artificial intelligence by its software engineers. According to a new internal guideline, the company considers metrics such as the amount of tokens used, tool adoption, and volume of code modifications to be 'deeply flawed' indicators when set as objectives.

Despite this change, the company does not intend to abandon AI. The focus of the alteration lies in the evaluation: instead of rewarding those who use more tools or generate a higher volume of code, Amazon seeks to measure the effect of the work on customers, businesses, and teams.

One of the identified challenges is the phenomenon known as 'tokenmaxxing,' a term used to describe the excessive use of tokens with the aim of inflating internal indicators. Tokens represent the units that models use to process and generate data, and they also affect the operational costs of these tools.

As reported by Fortune, Amazon warns that turning this consumption into a goal can result in increased expenses without guaranteeing a real improvement in results. This problem is not merely theoretical; company employees have even used AI agents in superfluous activities just to boost their numbers in an internal ranking that was discontinued in May.

For Terk Terkowitz, Amazon Vice President, the most appropriate criterion lies in the long-term results achieved, covering the impact on customers, the business, and the teams themselves. Although token consumption and tool adoption indicators are not eliminated, the company clarifies that they can help identify patterns but should not exclusively serve as performance goals.

The guidance also applies to the opposite: Terkowitz considers valuable the discovery of areas where AI is not being effective. The company maintains the incentive for engineers to learn and integrate AI into their daily routines, believing that the technology will remain central to software development, alongside knowledge, technical experience, and the ability to judge whether a specific solution is truly relevant.

This discussion transcends the limits of the company itself. A recent study showed that only 3% of organizations managed to exceed their savings targets through productivity gains provided by AI, even with most planning to expand their investments in this technology.

Silver price fell by 2.40 lakh rupees in 10 months, reaching the mark of 7000 rupees

In recent days, a significant decline in the prices of gold and silver has been observed. Daily drops in silver prices ranging from five to ten thousand rupees are being recorded against the backdrop of the ongoing geopolitical situation worldwide. Usually, during such moments, the prices of precious metals like gold and silver demonstrate growth; however, an opposite trend is observed in this case.

Silver is losing value daily, and gold is following suit. Silver, which reached a record 4.20 lakh rupees per kilogram this year, has decreased by 2.40 lakh rupees over just ten months, reaching the mark of 1.80 lakh rupees per kilogram. This raises a natural question about the reasons for such a fall in silver prices.

On Friday, on MCX, the price of silver with December futures traded at 1,82,500 rupees per kilogram, showing a drop of 3.67 percent or 7,000 rupees by 17:08. Simultaneously, the price of gold decreased by 1.16 percent or 1,657 rupees, amounting to 1,40,900 rupees per 10 grams.

The decrease in the value of gold and silver occurred not only in India's domestic commodity market but also internationally. In the global market, gold fell by 1.26 percent and dropped below $4000 per ounce. Silver, meanwhile, decreased by approximately 4 percent, trading at a price of $50.345 per ounce.

Rafale Marin makes first landing on aircraft carrier INS Vikrant

The history of the Indian Air Force marked an important milestone when the French-made Rafale Marin successfully completed its first landing on the domestic aircraft carrier INS Vikrant on October 29, 2026. During tests conducted in the Arabian Sea, the aircraft executed a landing with a 45,000-ton aircraft carrier.

This landing was flawless and met all theoretical requirements. It is the first time that the naval version of the Rafale (Rafale-M) has been operated from an Indian aircraft carrier. The successful landing demonstrated the complete compatibility of this aircraft with the Short Take-Off But Arrested Recovery (STOBAR) system of the Vikrant carrier.

These tests represent the first significant step towards incorporating the Rafale Marin into the Indian Navy. INS Vikrant is the first domestically built aircraft carrier in the country. The commencement of operations of modern combat aircraft on it will multiply the fleet's potential. It is planned to make the Rafale Marin the main element of the Vikrant's air wing. These aircraft will gradually replace the outdated MiG-29K fleet, leading to a significant improvement in the navy's maritime combat capabilities.

The Indian Navy has ordered approximately 26 Rafale Marin aircraft from France under a government contract worth approximately 63 thousand crore rupees. This order includes 22 single-seat and 4 two-seat training variants. The aircraft are equipped with an advanced AESA radar, as well as modern weapon systems such as Beyond Visual Range missiles, Exocet anti-ship missiles, and Scalp cruise missiles.

Thanks to these systems, the fleet will gain the ability to conduct high-precision long-range strikes in the Indian Ocean against enemy targets or vessels. The Rafale Marin is already successfully operated on the French Navy's nuclear aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle, confirming its effectiveness in carrier operations. Currently, the Indian Navy is working on integrating these aircraft into its systems.

During the current tests, aspects such as landing, takeoff, deck maneuvering, and integration with Vikrant's domestic systems are being verified. Night landings, weapons integration, and the process of obtaining full operational clearance will follow. These tests are necessary because each aircraft carrier has its own characteristics. The Vikrant's STOBAR system is based on catapult take-off and arresting wire landing. The successful integration of the Rafale Marin proves that both the technology and the training are on the right track.

This successful landing is a major step towards fully preparing INS Vikrant for combat operations. The Navy aims to become a blue-water force capable of conducting operations in the open sea. Amid growing challenges in the Indo-Pacific region, an aircraft carrier equipped with modern combat aircraft will provide a strategic advantage to the fleet. The long range and powerful weapon systems of the Rafale Marin will increase the presence and influence of the navy in the Indian Ocean. This victory also demonstrates the successful operation of an advanced foreign aircraft on a domestic platform. After the start of Rafale operations on Vikrant, there will be a qualitative change in the naval aviation power. Replacing the MiG-29K with modern aircraft will reduce maintenance issues and increase operational readiness. Thus, the landing on October 29th became the pride of the Indian Air Force and a solid foundation for future preparation.

Strict measures introduced in Maharashtra against the sale of expired and spoiled food

Maharashtra has adopted stringent measures following the discovery of cases involving the resale of food products with expired or spoiled dates. Commissioner of the Food and Drug Control Authority (FDA), Tukaram Mundhe, issued a new order requiring companies to provide irrefutable proof of the complete destruction of expired and unfit-for-consumption products. Simply presenting a paper certificate of destruction will no longer be considered sufficient.

FDA Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe emphasized that the administration's goal is not only to conduct inspections but also to ensure strict adherence to established regulations. To guarantee the quality and safety of food products, the FDA has implemented 22 regulations covering areas such as the hotel industry, milk and dairy products, vegetable oil, products supplied to schools, and other food processing enterprises. These rules define the responsibilities for all participants in the food business, including traders, companies, license holders, distributors, and relevant officials.

Previously, reports surfaced of instances where, despite receiving a certificate of destruction for expired goods, they were not actually destroyed completely. In some cases, these goods were subsequently rerouted to the market through agents. Attempts to alter the expiration dates on food products were also reported.

As part of the fight against the resale of expired products, the FDA conducted large-scale inspections in the districts of Bhiwandi and Wadpe over the past fifteen days, confiscating food supplies from various locations. In Bhiwandi, initially, about 80 thousand rupees worth of goods were seized, and later, another 2.6 million rupees in stock was discovered. In the Wadpe area, licenses of food trade-related establishments were suspended following inspections at two sites. According to the FDA commissioner, approximately 50 million rupees worth of goods were seized during this entire campaign. Furthermore, two cases were registered after 10 inspections, naming owners as defendants.

According to the rules, expired and spoiled products must be stored separately from marketable goods. However, inspections revealed that appropriate separation measures were absent in some locations. Although companies involved in product destruction provide certificates, this alone is insufficient proof of actual destruction. Tukaram Mundhe stated that preparation for this campaign took place over the last two months, during which a thorough analysis of storage methods for expired goods, returned products, and ways they could re-enter the market was conducted. Subsequently, new directives were developed to ensure strict compliance with food safety standards.

The FDA Commissioner clearly stated that if an expired product enters the market, the responsibility does not lie solely with the seller. The manufacturing company, distributor, wholesaler, license holder, and everyone involved in the food supply chain must fulfill their duties. Tukaram Mundhe stressed that every company, regardless of its size, must ensure that expired and spoiled products do not reach the market for further sale. He sent a clear signal that not a single package of expired product should enter the market.

The FDA asserts that the main objective of the new directives is to ensure the public has safe and quality food. Companies and individuals violating the rules will be held accountable according to the law. The process of destroying expired and spoiled products will now be under close scrutiny, and companies will be required to provide not only documentary confirmation but also convincing evidence of the actual destruction of the goods.

Tukaram Mundhe also noted that the Food Control Department's actions against counterfeit vegetable oil are ongoing and will continue. He emphasized that it is currently the Diwali festival period, accompanied by special culinary traditions, making it crucial to use clean and high-quality oils for cooking. A campaign against adulterated oil is being conducted to protect people's health. Mundhe reported that 1089 inspections concerning vegetable oil have been carried out so far, resulting in the cancellation of 80 licenses and the seizure of 28,753 centners of goods. He confirmed that the campaign against fake oil will continue.
