Info Edge reports stable growth and rethinking of consumer goods

Info Edge demonstrated stable results in the second quarter: consolidated revenue increased by 12.2% compared to last year, reaching 903.9 crore rupees, while net profit jumped by 87%, amounting to 649.8 crore rupees. The growth was driven by successes in the primary recruitment vertical, active expansion of the 99acres platform, and sustained demand for dating services, although the company's education business continued to face difficulties.

The company is currently undergoing a leadership transition. Hitesh Oberoi will leave his position as Managing Director and CEO on December 2 of this year after nearly 27 years with the company. Founder Sanjeev Bikhchandani plans to take on an expanded executive role starting December 3, subject to shareholder approval.

In other news, Jio Platforms successfully debuted on the National Stock Exchange, closing at 1419 rupees, representing a significant increase of 26.81% compared to the issue price of 1119 rupees. This listing raised the company's market capitalization to 13.06 lakh crore rupees, making it the second most valuable listed company in India, trailing only its parent company Reliance Industries and surpassing giants like Bharti Airtel and TCS.

The listing day followed a highly sought-after IPO worth 30,213 crore rupees, which was fully subscribed within two hours of launch and ultimately oversubscribed by 22 times.

Furthermore, School of Startups (PW SoS) from PhysicsWallah signed a two-year bilateral agreement with the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) to support early-stage startups. This program, expected to focus on second and third-tier cities as well as rural areas, combines training and mentorship with prototype development, incubation, investor access, and seed capital.

Regarding women's employment in India, despite the country's goal to increase the share of women in the workforce, statistics show otherwise: female labor force participation stands at 34.6%, yet the country registered nearly 4.4 lakh crimes against women in one year. The safety of Indian women remains a serious obstacle to their economic aspirations.

In response to this situation, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) issued a consultative opinion to central ministries, Indian Railways, and state administrations. This opinion covers eight critical areas, including physical infrastructure, police work, witness intervention, and cybersecurity. The main message is that women's safety is not merely a privilege or a matter of physical protection, but an economic necessity and a constitutional right to equal opportunities.

The review also mentions that Naiyya Saggi, along with industrial designer Visathej Rao, founded EDT (Everyday Design & Technology) to simplify daily life. EDT goes beyond traditional household appliances, reimagining devices for home and personal hygiene by combining thoughtful industrial design, safe non-toxic materials, and intuitive consumer technology. Saggi's core idea is that household goods should not just perform basic mechanical functions; they should assist in daily routines and reduce mental fatigue.
