Alcohol purchase method changed in Delhi: online reservation and QR code now available

The process of purchasing alcohol in Delhi is gradually transitioning to a digital format. Buyers will no longer have to visit multiple stores to check the availability of their favorite brand. The Delhi Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC) has launched the option for online alcohol reservation and digital payments through the 'Delhi Liquor Booking' application.

According to the new system, consumers can view available brands on a mobile device, check product availability, and select a desired store, after which they can make an online payment. After payment, the received QR code must be presented at the store to complete the order. Customers can review information about available brands in the app and choose a suitable DSIIDC store, then specify the volume and bottle size for payment.

The main advantage of this system is that it simplifies things for people who previously had to visit several locations to find a specific brand. Now they can check product availability even before arriving at the store. Currently, this feature is available in 208 DSIIDC stores.

It is important to note that alcohol will not be delivered home after online reservation; the buyer must personally go to the relevant store to collect the order. The order must be collected within 48 hours of reservation. Although there is an option to cancel the order before collection, returns are not possible once the item has been received, so caution should be exercised when choosing a brand, volume, and store.

Previously, other digital platforms such as mAbkariDelhi and e-Abkari were used to obtain information about stores and alcohol stock in Delhi. The new system allows not only selecting a brand and making an online payment but also placing an order directly in the store using a QR code.

To use this service, users must be at least 25 years old. According to available information, there is a purchase limit: a maximum of 9 liters of whiskey and 18 liters of beer at one time. Buyers are advised to study the app's terms and the current rules for alcohol sales in Delhi before making a reservation. This digital initiative, starting with 208 stores, is expected to show its effectiveness soon.
