The Public Ministry of Paraíba (MPPB) has initiated a civil inquiry to investigate the inadequate conditions at the Antônio Avelino de Almeida State Elementary School. This school is managed by the State Department of Education and is located in the city of Olho D'Água, in the Sertão region of Paraíba.
According to the Public Ministry, the problems identified at the start of the inquiry include the lack of air conditioning, poor lighting, absence of a ceiling, in addition to the poor state of conservation of the classrooms and other areas of the institution. Additionally, the dumping of sewage in the school area, near the deactivated soccer field, was noted.
The inquiry also mentions that an Administrative Process was started last year. This process aimed to conduct preliminary studies and take the necessary measures to demolish the current structure and build a new school unit.
The newspaper g1 attempted to contact the State Department of Education but received no response as of the latest update of the material.
Measures that need to be taken
According to the procedure conducted by the MP, several actions related to the problems identified at the state school in Olho D'Água have been requested. Among the requested measures are:
- Requesting records of works and relevant administrative processes from the Department of Education.
- Demanding details about the future school, such as projected costs, available resources, and execution schedule.
- Asking the City Hall for information regarding the land donation and the origin of the sewage.
- Requesting the environmental process related to the sewage from SUDEMA, including any inspections or infraction notices.
- Conducting a new on-site inspection at the school, documenting the found conditions through photographs and formal record.
Most of these requests must be met within fifteen days. Although there is no defined deadline for the inspection, it was indicated that it would be carried out after the second round of elections.
