In Bangalore, there is a paradoxical situation: the city regularly suffers from floods during the monsoon season, yet it experiences water scarcity. Observing how lakes disappear under concrete and trash, Harsha Tej decided to take action. He quit his job, took a shovel, and began restoring the water bodies that once gave life to the city.
Thanks to the BlueDot Foundation, Harsha helped restore eighteen lakes in Karnataka and plant over 150 thousand native trees. His work goes beyond simply improving the appearance of the lakes; it includes clearing invasive vegetation and restoring habitats. Healthy lakes support wildlife, help replenish groundwater, and improve the landscape's ability to manage rainwater.
For Harsha, every restored lake brings Bangalore closer to the city he remembers, where nature and urban life coexist in harmony. His experience demonstrates how one person's determination can inspire significant environmental change, restoring lakes one by one.
