The administration of Jami'a Milliya Islamia University has extended the period of online classes until November 8 amid ongoing protests. Throughout Monday, activity was observed both inside and outside the campus grounds.
A police patrol was deployed around the campus, while protesting students repeatedly reached the main entrance to shout slogans. Groups of people also gathered near the campus, which the police repeatedly dispersed.
On Monday, groups of people also gathered several times near the gates of Jami'a Milliya Islamia, shouting slogans. Police present on site repeatedly dispersed this crowd. Protests and chanting continued both inside and outside the campus until late in the evening.
Given the current situation on the university campus, the Jami'a administration decided to extend the online learning period. Classes will now be held remotely until November 8. Previously, all in-person classes were suspended on Saturday, and education was switched to an online format. The administration decided to maintain this system until November 8.
It should be noted that the situation escalated after some controversial and offensive slogans appeared on the campus walls on Friday. Based on concerns for student safety, a notification was issued from the registrar's office in December 2024 (the date in the text is indicated as October 24, but the context suggests a later event). According to this notification, all courses were immediately switched from in-person to online mode until further notice.
The order issued on behalf of Registrar Professor Mohammad Mahtab Alam Rizvi instructed department heads, faculty, and students to conduct classes online to avoid disruption to the students' educational process. However, students do not seem satisfied with this decision.
