20-year-old Karnvir donated organs, giving life to two people; father made the decision for organ donation

20-year-old Karnvir Kaur from the village of Mulowal in the Sangrur district received her secondary school certificate and successfully passed the IELTS test while preparing for studies abroad. However, on October 15, her life was changed by a road traffic accident. On October 16, she was taken to PGIMER in Chandigarh, where she was diagnosed with 'brain stem death' on October 21.

During the most difficult period of her life, her father, Jagdeep Singh, made a decision that could save two lives. He consented to organ donation. Both of Karnvir's kidneys were transplanted into two men aged 38 and 32 at PGIMER.

Jagdeep Singh shared his feelings, saying: 'We had many dreams for her.' He added that realizing his daughter would never return brings unbearable pain that cannot be described in words. Nevertheless, he noted that if any part of his daughter's life can help someone else stay alive, and this can bring smiles to two families, then the legacy of her life will continue.

The Director of PGIMER, Professor Vivek Lal, called this act an act of exceptional courage and humanity. He emphasized that this decision gave two patients a new chance at life, and through these people, Karnvir's legacy will always live.

Professor Ashish Sharma, head of the kidney transplantation department, stated that every transplant begins with the generosity of the donor's family. He noted that despite immense and unbearable losses, Karnvir's father provided the opportunity for two patients to restore their lives.

Karnvir's life ended too soon, but thanks to her father's courage, two other people received the gift of new life. One young life was lost, but two new ones began.
