On the night of Kojagari Lakshmi Puja 2026, it is believed that the goddess Lakshmi will visit Earth and bless those who are awake

Sharad Purnima is celebrated today. On this day, it is customary to prepare kheer, which is left under the moonlight. It is believed that the rays of the moon give kheer properties similar to amrita, and those who eat kheer receive wealth, abundance, and luxury.

Sharad Purnima is also known as Kojagari Purnima. In connection with this, a special ritual of worship to the goddess Lakshmi is performed at night. According to religious beliefs, Lakshmi travels across the Earth on this night and showers blessings upon those devotees who engage in bhajans, kirtans, and remain awake.

The word 'Kojagari' is associated with the belief that 'those who stay awake.' Therefore, in many families, lamps are lit at night, worship of Lakshmi is performed, mantras are recited, and bhajans are sung. Pilgrims tidy up their homes and decorate places of worship. Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Chandra are offered flowers, akshat, lamps, and naivedya. After the moonrise, the Arghya ritual is performed in honor of the Moon, wishing happiness and prosperity to the family.

According to religious beliefs, on the night of Sharad Purnima, the Moon is in perfection, possessing all sixteen of its phases. In Hinduism, sixteen phases are considered a symbol of completeness, prosperity, and ideal character. This is why special importance is given to worshipping Lord Chandra and contemplating the moonlight on this night. There is a belief that the moonlight during Sharad Purnima possesses the properties of amrita. Based on this belief, people prepare kheer and leave it outdoors to later consume it as prasad the next day.

The tradition of preparing kheer from milk, rice, and sugar is widespread on Sharad Purnima. After offering it to the gods, it is left under the moonlight. According to belief, contact with the moonlight imparts special qualities to the kheer. In the morning, it is distributed to family members and acquaintances as prasad. However, it is recommended to store kheer in a clean, safe, and covered place, rather than outdoors, to avoid dust, insects, or other impurities.

Acharya Ashok Kumar Dwivedi, former chairman of the Judicial Council of Kashi Vishwanath Mandir, has been conducting special worships to Lakshmi on Sharad Purnima for 44 years. The main rituals of Mahayajna begin on Saturday. These rituals are conducted by 21 Vedic Brahmins. During this time, Shri Yantra will be established, appropriate worship will be performed, Shri Mantra, Sahasrarachana, and Havan will be recited. Through these rituals, worship of Goddess Mahalakshmi is performed.

Goddess Siddhidatri Worshipped on Mahanavami: The Connection with Lord Shiva Revealed

According to religious beliefs, on the ninth day of Sharadiya Navaratri, Goddess Durga is worshipped in her form as Siddhidatri. It is believed that Siddhidatri grants prosperity, wealth, knowledge, and various powers to her devotees. On this day, devotees perform rituals to worship the goddess and also give special importance to performing Kunja Puja.

There is a belief that worshipping Siddhidatri fulfills the wishes of believers. In addition to worshipping the goddess, reading her mythological story is particularly valued on this day. Below is the legend of Siddhidatri.

According to ancient scriptures, Siddhidatri is the goddess who bestows all kinds of achievements. It is also believed that her image is associated with the Ardhanarishvara form of Lord Shiva. According to tradition, there was pitch darkness at the beginning of creation. At that time, the goddess Kushmanda used her divine power to create Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh. After this, she assigned different duties to the three deities: Brahma was entrusted with creating the world, Vishnu with sustaining it, and Shiva with destroying it.

It is said that one day Lord Shiva approached Goddess Kushmanda with a plea for completeness. Hearing this request, the goddess manifested as Siddhidatri. Siddhidatri granted Lord Shiva eight primary powers and other divine forces. In religious concepts, these powers are also mentioned as Asht Siddhis and ten additional powers.

After this, the need arose for both male and female principles for the further development of the universe. According to belief, Siddhidatri entered half of Lord Shiva's body then. This resulted in half of Lord Shiva's body becoming masculine and half feminine. This form of Lord Shiva is called Ardhanarishvara. The Ardhanarishvara form is seen as a symbol of the equality of male and female principles. According to religious beliefs, worshipping Siddhidatri brings blessings to the faithful. On the day of Mahanavami, followers worship Siddhidatri, chant mantras, and perform Kunja Puja.

Durga Puja pandal in Ranchi to feature theme using golgappe and jhalmuri

Attractive pandals are created annually during the Durga Puja celebration in Ranchi. This year, the celebration committee decided to deviate from traditions and apply a new concept. The pavilion dedicated to worshipping Goddess Durga will be decorated with a theme of golgappe and jhalmuri, which promises to be a special spectacle for visitors. Special attention will be paid to the interior decoration of the pavilion, made from golgappe, which, according to organizers, is expected to attract public attention.

Organizers believe that golgappe and jhalmuri are not just food items; they are used to reflect life experiences. It is noted that life has both bitter and sweet moments, and the taste of golgappe evokes similar sensations. Meanwhile, jhalmuri is known for its spicy and tangy flavor. Thus, the pavilion's theme represents different facets of life through tastes.

According to Kundan Singh, an organizer of the committee, the meeting took place in Shukla Colony, Hinu. The discussion focused on what could be done in the pavilion after changing venues to make it a center of attraction for people. It was after this that the idea of decorating the pavilion with a golgappe and jhalmuri theme arose. Artisans from Bengal are also participating in the preparation and decoration.

Jhalmuri is a popular food item in Bengal, and it recently also garnered attention during the Bengal elections. In Ranchi, references to Bengali culture and traditions have always been displayed during Durga Puja. This time, an attempt was made to give this kinship a new resonance through the theme of jhalmuri and golgappe.

Committee member Shambu expresses hope that the pavilion will appeal to devotees this year. The golgappe and jhalmuri theme may interest people of all ages. The committee is confident that the unusual decoration will attract people not only for worshiping Goddess Durga but also to visit the pavilion itself. Ranchi is known for its grand events and beautiful pandals during Durga Puja. The new theme with golgappe and jhalmuri has generated heightened interest. Now it remains to see how much visitors will like this combination of taste and culture.
