The President noted the historic result of the national team of Uzbekistan at the V Summer Paralympic Games held in Japan. This was reported by the president's press service.
Uzbekistan's athletes collectively received 145 medals, allowing the country to take third place among 45 nations. The national team was only surpassed by China and Japan.
In his congratulation, the head of state particularly emphasized that Uzbek para-athletes outperformed countries such as India, South Korea, Iran, Thailand, and Indonesia.
More than 2600 para-athletes from 45 Asian countries participated in the competitions. Uzbekistan's athletes also set several records. Powerlifter Ruza Qoziyeva set a world record, and eight other athletes broke Asian records in various disciplines. Additionally, 16 representatives of Uzbekistan updated Paralympic records in para-cycling, powerlifting, and para-athletics.
Egor Bolotov, participating in the Paralympic Games for the first time, won four gold and one silver medal in swimming. 15-year-old Boburbek Toshtemirov became the first in Uzbekistan's history to win a gold medal in track para-cycling competitions and entered history as the youngest champion.
