The play 'A Mulher no Espelho' will take place on November 4th at 7:00 PM in the city of São Luís. This production addresses themes of mental health, loneliness, and self-identification.
The work by the Maranhão troupe Cia. no Ar! will be shown at the Sesc Napoleão Ewerton theater in São Luís. The performance explores aspects such as identity, loneliness, and mental health. In addition to the theatrical presentation, the program in the capital of Maranhão also includes a discussion moderated by psychoanalyst Silvana Barbaly. This activity will focus on emotional conflicts and the theme of identity, which are part of the play itself. The play will also be available for people using Brazilian Sign Language (Libras).
The monologue, starring actress Jaceline Lins, is an adaptation of the work 'O Homem no Espelho' by Romanian playwright Matei Vișniec. The plot tells the story of a woman who begins to hear a mysterious voice from the bathroom mirror and is forced to confront conflicts between reality, delusion, and her own personality.
The production combines elements of Theatre of the Absurd and Noir aesthetics, using minimalist scenography, dark lighting, and sound effects to build the narrative.
Maranhão Troupe
Cia. no Ar! was founded in São Luís in 2019 and is engaged in research into performing arts and original creative works. The play 'A Mulher no Espelho' was first presented in 2021 at the Arthur Azevedo Theater and received honorable mention in Plasticity of Drama at the XVII Maranhão Theater Week. The production also participated in the Satyrianas Festival in São Paulo and was included in the opening of the Godôvirá Festival in 2025.
The tour through the Northeast region represents a new stage in the company's development, aiming to expand the reach of its productions to other states. Jaceline Lins noted that the Northeast tour marks the troupe's first touring trip. She emphasized that they are simultaneously implementing two formats: one fully organized by themselves, from hiring the crew to negotiating with theaters, and another conducted within the structure of Banco do Nordeste Cultural.
The artistic direction of the play is managed by Eduardo Medeiros, and the stage direction belongs to Igor Kairoz.
