Dubai to add about 100 km of main drainage lines to improve stormwater drainage

The Dubai Municipality has awarded contracts for four new projects to develop the urban drainage network, which will improve the stormwater runoff system in Dubai. These projects are part of Phase 3 of the Tasrif Program and involve the construction and expansion of approximately 100 kilometers of main stormwater drainage lines with diameters up to 3 meters.

The total cost of these works is 3 billion dirhams, and the lines will be distributed across key areas of the city, covering nearly 100 square kilometers. Among these areas are Jumeirah, Umm Suqeim, Al Safa, Al Manara, Al Quoz, Al Barsha, Al Wasl, Zaabil, Al Badaa, Al Satwa, and Al Marmoom, which will be connected to the Dubai Municipality's main drainage network. The implementation of these projects aims to increase the capacity of the network, enhance its operational resilience, and support sustainable urban growth.

The Tasrif Program is one of the largest strategic and transformative infrastructure projects in the UAE. The Dubai Municipality is implementing this program with a total budget of 30 billion dirhams, which will increase stormwater drainage capacity by 700 percent and reduce costs for building pumping stations, as well as for operation and maintenance, by 20 percent.

Development of Stormwater Drainage Network in Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim

The 'Development of Stormwater Drainage Network in Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim' project is one of the largest under Phase Three of Tasrif. It covers residential areas stretching from Umm Suqeim 1, 2, and 3, and Umm Al Sheif to Jumeirah 3, Al Safa 1 and 2, as well as Al Manara along the Dubai Water Canal. This project plans to construct approximately 42 kilometers of main stormwater drainage lines, which will increase the reliability, efficiency, and capacity of the drainage system.

Project for Development and Capacity Increase of Drainage Network Between Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Hail Road

The 'Development and Capacity Increase of Stormwater Drainage Network between Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Hail Road' project includes the construction of 14 kilometers of main stormwater drainage lines. It will serve the intersection of Al Hail Road towards Umm Suqeim, as well as Umm Suqeim Road and Sheikh Zayed Road, in addition to First Al Hail Street, Al Marabea Street, Al Waha Street, Al Zumurrud Street, and associated secondary roads. This project will cover the industrial areas of Al Quoz 1, 3, and 4, as well as Al Barsha 1.

The drainage line project along Al Wasl Street will serve areas east of the Dubai Water Canal, including Zaabil 2, Al Wasl, Jumeirah 1 and 2, Al Badaa, Al Satwa, and Dubai International Trade Centre 1 and 2, covering an area of up to 25 square kilometers. This project provides for an integrated stormwater drainage network consisting of main and secondary transport lines and associated infrastructure totaling 21 kilometers. This will allow for the efficient management of large volumes of runoff and prevent water accumulation.

As part of Phase Three of the Tasrif Program, the Dubai Municipality will also work on creating an integrated and sustainable stormwater drainage network in Al Marmoom, where 23 kilometers of infrastructure will be implemented to serve vital areas.
