Director Rajamouli reveals details of the film 'Varanasi', shot in Antarctica and dedicated to the Ramayana

One of the biggest filmmakers in the South Indian cinema industry, S.S. Rajamouli, is presenting his films in theaters after a long break. His movie 'Varanasi' will be released in the coming months and features actors such as Mahesh Babu, Prithviraj Sukumaran, and Priyanka Chopra. This project is the most ambitious for Rajamouli, and it was filmed in various parts of the world. The film is being prepared for release in IMAX format.

The anticipation for 'Varanasi' stems from its inclusion of time travel elements and parts of the Ramayana. The character Mahesh Babu, Rudra, travels to the past to investigate a mystery. The film's production has a budget exceeding 100 billion rupees, making it one of the second-largest pictures in India.

Rajamouli spent the last year shooting his film, and he recently announced that filming has finally wrapped up. According to him, 'Varanasi' is five to six times larger than his blockbuster 'RRR'. Notably, despite its massive scale, the filming took fewer days than 'RRR'.

During a film festival in Brazil, Rajamouli stated that completing the shoot for 'RRR' took about 315 days, whereas 'Varanasi' was finished in approximately 275 days. He explained this by saying he had prepared much more documentation for 'Varanasi' in advance. He emphasized that although 'Varanasi' is bigger, it was shot faster, which allowed for a saving of 40 days.

The director noted that the experience gained from creating 'RRR' helped him with 'Varanasi'. Thanks to more meticulous planning this time, the shooting time was reduced. He also stated that 'Varanasi' is not just an ordinary action-adventure film; its plot spans numerous different locations and sequences.

Rajamouli revealed that every major scene in the film resembles a separate picture on its own. He listed locations such as Antarctica, Africa, Varanasi, a mystical journey through time into a mythological world, the caves of Ugrabhathi, and the climax. The main challenge was fitting these 6-7 elements, each resembling a standalone film, into one cohesive picture.

As for Varanasi, it is being created on a grand scale, with extensive use of visual effects (VFX) and preparation for IMAX release. The global theatrical release of the film is scheduled for April 7, 2027.

Jailer 2 starring Rajinikanth will be released in Hindi, despite rumors

This week is expected to bring numerous releases to theaters, covering cinema from Bollywood to South Indian and Hollywood. Tamil superstar Rajinikanth presents his film 'Jailer 2,' which features a cameo by Hrithik Roshan. Among other well-known actors appearing in the film are Vidya Balan, Jackie Shroff, and Mithun Chakraborty, all of whom are popular in the Hindi region.

Recently, sensational information has circulated in the industry that 'Jailer 2' will not be released in Hindi. This means that Rajinikanth's fans in North India will not be able to see the film in Hindi in cinemas; the original Tamil version and versions in other South Indian languages are expected to release as usual.

According to reports, the main reason the film might not be released in Hindi is a deal concerning its release on streaming platforms (OTT). The creators decided to release the film on OTT only four weeks after its theatrical run. This agreement has created serious issues in the Hindi market. Typically, major multiplexes such as PVR INOX and Cinepolis prefer an interval of about eight weeks between the theatrical release and the OTT release for Hindi films.

However, in the case of 'Jailer 2,' the creators aim to bring the film to OTT in just four weeks. Because of this, organizing the release of the Hindi version of the film in major multiplexes has become difficult. As a result, those who want to watch 'Jailer 2' in Hindi will have to wait for its OTT release instead of going to the cinema.

According to the alleged deal, the film may become available in all languages on OTT approximately four weeks after its theatrical release. However, no official announcement regarding the OTT platform or the exact streaming date has been made yet.

While there has been uncertainty in the media regarding the Hindi release of 'Jailer 2,' the film's PR team has issued a clarification on the matter. They clearly stated that Rajinikanth's film will be released in a dubbed Hindi version in theaters on Thursday, October 15. Versions of the film in other languages will also be released on the same day, as originally planned.

Pen Marudhar Entertainment will handle the distribution of the film in North India. The creators emphasized that there have been no changes to the plans for the Hindi theatrical release of the film. They urged the media not to spread unconfirmed information about the film's release and to disseminate only reliable facts.

As for the film 'Jailer 2' itself, it was directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, who also directed 'Jailer' in 2023. The film will feature a cameo by Hrithik.
