The UP PET 2026 exam started today, October 25th, opening the path to various government positions in Uttar Pradesh. This exam is conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Subordinate Services Selection Commission (UPSSSC) and is intended for the preliminary screening of candidates for Group C posts in various government departments.
After successfully passing the PET, candidates can apply for main entrance exams for positions such as Lekhpal, Village Development Officer (VDO), and Junior Assistant, provided they meet other vacancy requirements.
The purpose of the UPSSSC PET exam is that the commission may use PET scores for the preliminary selection of candidates when a large number of applications are received for various vacancies. Following this, the main exam or another selection procedure is conducted for the respective post. It is important to understand that passing the PET does not guarantee a government job; candidates must also successfully pass the main exam and other necessary selection stages.
Eligible candidates can apply for various commission vacancies based on their PET score. Key positions available include: Land Lekhpal, Village Development Officer (VDO), Junior Assistant, Forest Guard, Agro-Technical Assistant, Auditor, and Internal Accountant, as well as Laboratory Technician and Radiologist.
Regarding salary, it can vary depending on the position, with experience playing a key role. The starting salaries are: ₹21,700 for Land Lekhpal, Village Development Officer (VDO), and Junior Assistant; ₹19,900 for Forest Guard and Agro-Technical Assistant; ₹25,500 for Sugarcane Overseer; and ₹29,200 for Auditor and Internal Accountant. It should be noted that these amounts are the basic pay, not the take-home amount. Furthermore, according to the rules, allowances for Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), and other benefits may be paid, which will change the amount received after tax deductions.
According to the UP PET 2026 notification, participants must possess a secondary school certificate (10th grade) or an equivalent qualification obtained from an accredited institution. However, for the position announced after the PET, a higher secondary school certificate (12th grade), a university degree, a diploma, or a specialized technical qualification may be required.
