Rio artist Rodrigo Torrero releases album 'Erre' with nine original songs inspired by magical realism

Rodrigo Torrero, a prominent figure in the Rio de Janeiro indie scene, is working to consolidate his career as a singer and songwriter. Graduated in Music from Unirio, he began composing in 2013 and released his first recording with the EP “Uma noite de sol” in 2019, six years after starting to create.

After releasing six singles, Torrero presents his first full album, titled “Erre,” scheduled for release on November 6th. This work follows the singles “Todos os assuntos” and “Mury” and represents a collaboration with Carol Viani. The album “Erre” gathers nine original compositions, fitting into a genre that can be classified as new MPB, although it features touches of pop.

The album's recording featured musical production by Vinicius Castro and involved the participation of the artist's close friends and colleagues. Antonia Medeiros, a music college classmate and member of the vocal group Consoantes, participates in the track “Pouca vergonha.”

Regarding the song “Velha farra,” it is shared between Rodrigo Torrero and Guilherme Imia, another college mate and member of the Consoantes group, as well as Tom Rossi, a childhood musician friend. This song is Torrero's tribute to Totó Joey, a family dog who passed away in 2016, and is inspired by “Diana,” composed by Toninho Horta and Fernando Brant in 1977, which was also written in memory of a pet dog.

Other tracks that are part of the entirely original repertoire of “Erre” include “Errar,” “Ir,” “Julia,” and “Mirante.” These songs are situated in a universe that Rodrigo Torrero describes as “magical realism,” a concept built from the fusion of fantastic world references, such as the saga of “The Lord of the Rings,” with everyday magical elements.

Torrero reflects on his works, stating that they “embrace the uncertainty of what is around the bend and allow themselves to be enchanted by what is around them,” expressing hope that the album “Erre” will be a success in his journey in independent music.
