Chinese Medical Team Provides Free Traditional Chinese Medicine Aid in Sierra Leone

The twenty-seventh Chinese medical team, which arrived in Sierra Leone, conducted a series of free public health clinics in the capital region during the current month. These events provided local residents with specialized assistance for pain relief, general medical support, and training.

This medical mission, organized by the China-Sierra Leone Friendship Hospital Traditional Chinese Medicine Center as part of China's '100 Medical Teams in 1000 Villages' program, included a special TCM session at the Kalaba City Medical Center on Thursday, marking the 35th World Traditional Medicine Day.

Chinese specialists and local staff, focused on treating common chronic diseases caused by heavy physical labor, served about one hundred residents of Kalaba City. Doctors employed specific treatment methods such as subcutaneous Fu injections, balancing acupuncture, Tuina massage, and scraping, providing immediate relief for chronic neck, shoulder, and joint pain.

Earlier this month, the team also conducted multidisciplinary examinations in western suburbs, including blood pressure and glucose level checks, general consultations, and cataract screening for future free surgeries. In addition to treatment, specialists conducted sanitary education, taught therapeutic exercises, and provided practical clinical training to local doctors based on real cases.

Mohamed K. Fabba, director of the Kalaba City Medical Center, highly praised this initiative, noting that it addresses pressing public health issues, and expressed hope for expanded cooperation.

The medical team confirmed its intention to expand services and clinical training locally and nationwide under the China-Africa Health Initiative.
