Singer Cantor Nilson Chaves discharged from hospital after suffering cerebral ischemia in Belém

The Paraense singer and composer Nilson Chaves, aged 74, was discharged from the hospital on the morning of this Saturday, the 24th, in the city of Belém. The artist had been hospitalized since the beginning of the week due to an episode of transient cerebral ischemia.

According to a statement issued by the musician's communications office, Nilson has returned to his residence and does not present serious sequelae. From this point forward, medical monitoring and rehabilitation will be conducted at home, with the assistance of physiotherapists and speech therapists.

In a note, gratitude was expressed for the good energy and prayers received by the artist and his family, celebrating Nilson's recovery.

Recalling the case

The family confirmed Nilson Chaves' hospitalization last Tuesday, the 20th. On that occasion, relatives reported that he had suffered a Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA), but that his clinical condition was stable, keeping him conscious and lucid.

Family members also made a request on social media for the public to avoid spreading fake news or rumors about the singer's health status. It is important to note that transient cerebral ischemia occurs when there is a momentary interruption of blood flow to the brain. Although symptoms, such as sudden weakness and difficulty speaking, usually disappear quickly, this event serves as a significant warning for the risk of a Stroke (Cerebral Vascular Accident) and requires immediate medical attention.

Health history

This is not the first delicate health period faced by the composer. In 2020, during the pandemic, Nilson Chaves was hospitalized in serious condition due to complications from Covid-19. At that time, he required mechanical ventilation in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Santa Casa de Misericórdia do Pará, staying there for 22 days. After his recovery, the singer dedicated the composition of the song 'Iluminados' as a way to thank the medical team that assisted him.

Voice of Amazonian culture

Born in Belém on November 8, 1951, Nilson Chaves is recognized as one of the most significant figures of Brazilian Popular Music originating from the Amazon. His artistic career, which spans over five decades and includes approximately 20 recorded albums, has established him as an author of songs that have become symbols of Paraense identity, such as 'Sabor Açaí', 'Olho de Boto', and 'Olhando Belém'.

During his international trajectory, Nilson was nominated for the Latin Grammy in 2000, in the category of Brazilian roots music, for the album 25 Anos ao Vivo. He also established successful collaborations with other important artists from the region, such as violinist Sebastião Tapajós. In recognition of his artistic relevance, the Legislative Assembly of Pará (Alepa) approved, in September 2025, a bill that designated Nilson Chaves' musical work as cultural and intangible heritage of the state.
