Mercedes-Benz equips trucks with multimedia center and smart routing system to avoid traffic restrictions

Mercedes-Benz, which celebrates 70 years of operation in Brazil, announced several innovations that will be presented at Fenatran 2026, an event scheduled to take place between November 9th and 13th in São Paulo.

One of the main highlights is the implementation of a multimedia center across its entire truck line. The Accelo, Atego, Axor, and Arocs models will now be equipped with this new system. Furthermore, the road truck Actros will also receive this technology in its analog panel version, as the model is also sold with a fully digital panel.

Features of the New Multimedia Center

The newly launched multimedia center has 10.1 inches and its most notable feature is offline navigation with route optimization. By providing specific vehicle data, such as weight, height, or width, the map can plot a path that bypasses sections with driving restrictions. For example, if a truck is transporting a load up to four meters high, the system will indicate routes where bridges and overpasses allow passage without risk.

Although the focus is on offline navigation, the center also supports connectivity with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. This new accessory will be available in specific packages for each model, but the manufacturer has not yet disclosed the prices.

Other Improvements in the Vehicle Range

In addition to the multimedia center, Mercedes-Benz introduced enhancements to other vehicles. The Accelo 1117 gained an exclusive configuration for cash-in-transit transport; in this case, the model is sold without the conventional cabin, allowing the customer to send only the chassis to be armored and fitted. Ten units of this model have already been sold to the cash transport company Brink’s.

For the off-road segment and severe applications, the Arocs 5851 8x4 was presented, receiving improvements such as a reinforced dual air filter, designed to protect the engine in extreme dusty environments. Additionally, in terms of safety, Active Braking Assistant (ABA 5) was included, which performs 100% autonomous braking to prevent rear-end collisions if the driver cannot react to an obstacle.

In the agricultural sector, the Atego 3033 8x2 was equipped with the HL7 rear axle, catering to operations such as milk, feed, swine, and cattle transport. This model is already in circulation, with 50 units already sold.

In the road transport segment, the Axor, which made its comeback to the market and has already exceeded 2,400 units sold, received the new Retro Light Blue paint, a tribute to the classic L-312 (Torpedo) and 1113.

For the Actros, specifically in the 2653 6x4 version, the brand began including the CabLock in the safety package. This is a physical locking mechanism activated only internally in the cabin. Another internal novelty is the new bed, which features foam mattress and pocket spring type.

Regarding the mechanical part of the Actros, the manufacturer offers an extra battery package dedicated to engine starting. This allows that, during rest or overnight periods, if the main battery is drained by the use of various electronic equipment, the driver can activate the second battery just to start the vehicle via a button on the dashboard. Similar to the Axor, the Actros also gained a new exclusive color: Matte Blue Meisse.

Volvo launches attention monitoring system in trucks that performs automatic stopping in case of driver drowsiness

Volvo has developed a truck equipped with technology capable of identifying when the driver shows signs of drowsiness while driving, potentially triggering autonomous braking if the driver does not react. This feature, called Controlled Stop, will be presented by the Swedish manufacturer at Fenatran 2026.

Controlled Stop will be available as an option on the heavy models FH, FM, and FMX, sold starting from the event, which will take place at São Paulo Expo from November 9 to 13. Volvo states that this feature is exclusive to the brand.

In comparison, the Mercedes-Benz Actros has offered a similar emergency stop system in Europe since 2021, although this is activated by the absence of interaction with the steering wheel, and not specifically by the eyes.

The mechanism is activated when sensors detect that the driver keeps their eyes closed for more than five seconds or when they do not identify hands on the steering wheel. Initially, the system issues alerts. If there is no response within the subsequent five seconds, the truck initiates lane keeping with directional correction and subsequently activates the service brakes, gradually reducing speed until stopping in the same lane.

During this stopping maneuver, the hazard lights are turned on. When movement ceases, the doors are unlocked to facilitate the arrival of rescue teams. For context, at 80 km/h, a truck covers approximately 110 meters in five seconds; adding the time of closed eyes and waiting for a reaction, over 220 meters are covered before the procedure begins.

The driver retains the ability to interrupt the stop at any time, simply by pressing the accelerator, applying force to the steering wheel, or deactivating the Attention Detector. This detector represents the first level of warning. In its second version, a sensor was added to monitor whether the driver's eyes are closed, looking down, or looking sideways, intensifying warnings in frequency and volume as drowsiness persists.

This component is part of Safety Packages 5 and 6, with the latter including Volvo Dynamic Steering, a system that uses an electric motor to make steering more stable and light.

In the European Union, cameras designed to monitor driver attention have become mandatory in new trucks since July of this year. In Brazil, the issue of fatigue and sleep is recognized; the Brazilian Traffic Medicine Association (Abramet) points out that these factors are responsible for 60% of road accidents involving professional drivers in categories C, D, and E.

Furthermore, Volvo will introduce the Safety Score, a report accessible via the Volvo Connect application. This tool collects data on sudden braking, collision warnings, and activations of stability control and ABS brakes, allowing carriers to direct appropriate training.

Another improvement is in the automatic electronic parking brake, which now has new activation conditions. With the doors closed, it locks the vehicle ten seconds after stopping, even if the driver has not pressed the brake pedal or left the seat. If the doors are open and the driver is outside the seat, three seconds without using the pedals are sufficient for locking.

This innovation arrives in the brand's most popular model, the Volvo FH 540, which is the best-selling heavy truck in Brazil since 2019. According to the National Federation of Motor Vehicle Distributors (Fenabrave), 5,403 units of this model were registered in 2025.
