Amit Mishra speaks about disappointment after Virat Kohli's promises

Unexpected information has emerged concerning one of the most reliable batsmen in the Indian team, Virat Kohli. Amit Mishra, a former experienced leg-spinner for the Indian team, made a shocking statement about Virat Kohli during an interview on Akash Chopra's podcast.

Mishra reported that Virat Kohli, who had given him hope of a return after a serious injury, subsequently stopped answering his calls and messages. This silence caused such deep disappointment that he ultimately had to make the difficult decision to retire from his career.

In 2017, Amit Mishra suffered a serious leg injury during a T20 series against England, forcing him to leave the sports arena for an extended period. Recalling that difficult time, Mishra noted that Anil Kumble was the head coach at the time, who encouraged him, assuring him that his return was guaranteed once he recovered.

Later, when Virat Kohli became captain, Mishra contacted him. According to Mishra, Kohli assured him that his place in the team would be secured as soon as he fully recovered. This promise gave the spinner hope of a comeback. He proved his physical fitness by playing in both domestic cricket and the IPL.

Amit Mishra revealed that during an IPL match between Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, he met with captain Virat Kohli to openly discuss his future and the possibility of returning. During this meeting, Kohli promised to give him clarity regarding the situation within ten days. However, no response came from Virat afterward, and he stopped answering calls.

This ignoring by the senior player deeply upset Amit Mishra.

Yuzvendra Chahal spoke about a traumatic incident that happened to him during a party in 2013

The left-arm spinner for the Indian team, Yuzvendra Chahal, revealed details of an early career incident that put his life in danger. During a party in Bangalore in 2013, while playing for Mumbai Indians (MI), a drunken Australian cricketer lifted him from the 15th-floor balcony and hung him upside down.

Chahal shared this story on a podcast by former Indian batsman Akash Chopra. He clarified that two cricketers whose names had previously been linked to the incident were not involved. Chahal noted that a very drunk Australian player was present at the party organized by Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in Bangalore.

According to Chahal, this athlete was physically very strong and suddenly lifted him, hanging him from the balcony. Chahal recounted: 'He just held me by the neck.' People in the room panicked, and everyone immediately intervened to get him back up.

He added that despite the player laughing, it felt like a second chance at life for him. Chahal speculated that the incident took place on the 15th or 16th floor of the hotel. He admitted that in his youth, he did not understand how to officially file a complaint about such an event, and later decided to focus on his career.

Chahal first mentioned this case in 2022. Although Andrew Symonds' name was mentioned in some previous reports, Chahal now categorically denies the involvement of both Symonds and James Franklin. However, he declined to name the Australian cricketer.

Chahal began his IPL career in 2013 with Mumbai Indians and later became a leading bowler for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, playing for the team for eight seasons. He is one of the most successful bowlers in IPL history, with 233 wickets in 188 matches. In the 2026 IPL season, he played 14 matches for Punjab Kings (PBKS), taking 12 wickets.

Former player Vasim Zafar comments on Virat Kohli's sudden departure and preparation for the England tour

In May 2025, Virat Kohli's sudden exit from Test matches caused a major shock to Indian cricket fans. Kohli announced his withdrawal from this format just five days after Rohit Sharma did. Despite more than a year and a half passing since this event, debates about the real reasons behind such a sudden decision continue.

Former Indian player Vasim Zafar attracted attention from fans with his outspoken statement on the matter. Discussing the situation on his YouTube channel, Zafar suggested that Virat Kohli might have been dissatisfied with how the entire process of his exit from Test cricket was managed. He noted that the treatment of Virat seemed to have caused him some irritation.

Zafar emphasized that players like Virat attract a large number of viewers due to their popularity on the field. He also stated that Kohli could have played many more matches in the Test format. However, until Virat speaks himself, the true picture will remain unknown. It was known that at the time of his departure, he was preparing for a trip to England.

Vasim Zafar made these remarks in the context of reviewing the tenure of former chief selector Ajit Agarkar. Although Zafar highly praised India's success in white-ball formats during Agarkar's tenure, he expressed strong disagreement with the methods of managing senior players.

It is worth noting that Rohit Sharma announced his withdrawal from Test matches only five days before Kohli, specifically on May 7, 2025. Before the last Test in the Australian tour, Rohit hinted that he did not plan to leave the sport, but his decision several months later raised many questions.

Delhi coach Sarandeep Singh previously revealed that Kohli was actively preparing for the trip to England during the Ranji Trophy tournament, aiming to score three or four centuries there. In contrast, Agarkar claimed that Virat himself expressed a desire to retire in early April.
