World Food Programme showcases refugee children's art to support humanitarian work in Iran

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) held an art exhibition featuring paintings by refugee children residing in 20 settlements across Iran. The event aimed to garner support for WFP's humanitarian operations in the country. The exhibition concluded on Friday.

This initiative presented the creative potential, resilience, and hopes of refugee children to the public through an exhibition held in two prominent locations in Tehran. Visitors could learn about their dreams, perspectives, and life experiences. As reported by the UN in a press release dated October 21, each piece of art told a unique story, highlighting the creativity and determination of children who continue to pursue their aspirations despite hardships.

The works were displayed at Haman Store, a major concept store in central Tehran, and at Prague Pastry Boutique, a well-known Tehran brand with four branches and a recently opened concept store. Both venues were noted for their unique approach to art, design, and community engagement, providing an opportunity for the general public to view the children's work.

Beyond celebrating artistic expression, this campaign was also designed to mobilize support for WFP's humanitarian activities in Iran. Attendees had the opportunity to purchase the paintings, with the proceeds going towards WFP programs that support vulnerable populations, including refugee children and members of host communities affected by conflict.

These programs include assistance in schools, cash transfers, and food aid, helping families meet basic needs and contributing to the well-being and educational access of children. Currently, WFP is providing humanitarian aid to approximately 60,000 people across Iran, including refugees and vulnerable members of host communities impacted by the recent escalation.

Through this initiative, WFP seeks to connect the public with the stories of refugee children, acknowledge their artistic talents, and demonstrate how creativity and community involvement can contribute to humanitarian action.
