National Institute of Meteorology issues red alert for rain, winds up to 100 km/h, and hail in Rio Grande do Sul

Saturday, the 24th, began with cloudy skies over much of Rio Grande do Sul. The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) issued a red warning specifically for the northern extreme of the state, signaling a high risk of precipitation accompanied by winds that could reach 100 km/h and the occurrence of hail until the end of the day.

In addition to the red alert, Inmet released two other warnings: an orange one, classified as danger, valid for the north and the Serra region, and a yellow warning, indicating potential danger, which covers the entire state of Rio Grande do Sul.

The alert levels issued by Inmet range from yellow to red, with the latter being the highest degree on the risk scale. According to Climatempo Meteorologia information, thunderstorms are expected in the northern half of the state, with rainfall volumes that could reach 100 millimeters in certain locations, while in other regions the rain is expected to be lighter.

This climatic instability is attributed to the presence of a low-pressure area generating a cyclone on the coast. Despite the bad weather, the forecast temperatures are mild, with maximums reaching up to 23°C in some cities.

On Sunday, the 25th, Election Day, the intensity of the instability is expected to decrease in most of Rio Grande do Sul. However, there is still a possibility of showers, classified as moderate to heavy, in the northern and northeastern areas of the state. In the Serra and Northern Coast, precipitation may remain more constant.

The Metropolitan Region may experience isolated episodes of rain, alternating with periods of sun. Thermal projections for this day indicate a minimum of 15°C and a maximum of 20°C.
