BYD SUV three-wheel mode: technology allows lifting a wheel to bypass obstacles

Chinese companies are introducing vehicles with impressive features. Recently, a video went viral showing a BYD SUV driving on three wheels. However, this is not a trick but a demonstration of advanced technology.

In a situation where a lock was placed on one wheel of a parked SUV, the driver was able to lift that wheel along with the lock and drive out of the parking spot. The car featured in the video is the Fangchengbao Bao 8, known globally as the Denza B8. The video was filmed in Jingshan city, Lianyunning province.

When exiting the parking lot, the front wheel was about a foot higher than the ground. The secret to this feature lies in BYD's DiSus-P suspension system, which is equipped with two-valve dampers. This system allows one wheel of the vehicle to be lifted off the ground.

The system is designed to allow for easy changing of a wheel or tire without using a jack. Drivers can also use this function when encountering obstacles during off-road driving. According to BYD, this system provides a lifting capacity of 19,000 pounds and can keep a wheel airborne for up to 24 hours.

The vehicle can travel at a speed of 15 kilometers per hour. This is why the Bao 8 is seen moving slowly in the video. If the user drives at a low speed while keeping one wheel in the air, they can prevent tire damage in an emergency. The suspension adjustment range is 200 mm, and one wheel can be lifted up to 300 mm.

Regarding the Bao 8 model itself, it is a body-on-frame plug-in hybrid SUV. It is equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine working together with two electric motors. This vehicle is capable of producing 500 kW of power and 760 Nm of torque. It has all-wheel drive capability and can accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 4.8 seconds.
