The Uttar Pradesh government has developed a plan to acquire approximately 8,200 hectares of land for the creation of three new expressways aimed at accelerating passenger and freight mobility. These infrastructure projects include the Vindhya Expressway, spanning 320 kilometers, the Meerut-Haridwar Expressway, measuring 145 kilometers, and the Vindhya Purvanchal Link Expressway at 100 kilometers.
According to information from one English newspaper, the total expenditure for the entire land acquisition process will amount to over 15,000 crore Indian rupees from the state budget. A high-ranking official noted that existing and future expressway projects will help Uttar Pradesh accelerate its journey towards becoming a $1 trillion economy by 2030. The authorized agency responsible for developing these three projects is the Uttar Pradesh Expressway Industrial Development Authority.
The UP government has completed the approval of the alignment for all three expressways. These roads will pass through approximately 650 villages in Uttar Pradesh, as well as through the Haridwar district in Uttarakhand. For the largest project, the Vindhya Expressway, about 4,615 hectares of land will need to be acquired in 109 villages of eastern UP.
The Vindhya Expressway will extend the 594-kilometer Ganga Expressway, connecting the cities of Prayagraj, Bodh, and Mirzapur with Sonobhadra. Similarly, the Meerut-Haridwar Expressway will expand the Ganga Expressway, linking Meerut in Uttar Pradesh with Haridwar in Uttarakhand. Implementing this project requires acquiring about 2,020 hectares of land in 184 villages of western Uttar Pradesh (Amroha and Bijnor) and in the Haridwar district of Uttarakhand.
It is worth noting that the Ganga Expressway, which is the longest new expressway in India, was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 29, 2026.
