Lele Hotel in Vayots Dzor: Architecture Integrated with the Mountain Landscape

The Lele Hotel, located in Vayots Dzor, was designed to dialogue directly with the surrounding mountainous environment, avoiding the imposition of an isolated architectural structure. The project concept focuses on establishing continuity with the terrain through the choice of materials, proportions, and interaction with the site's natural slope.

The palette of materials used reflects the variable colors and textures of the landscape, combining exposed concrete panels with felsite stone from the region. Adjacent terraces are separated by articulated wooden panels, giving guests the freedom to open or close these dividers to share the space as they wish. The stone walls extend the geological characteristic of the terrain into the building's interior, while the concrete defines a clear structural rhythm across the three floors.

On the ground itself, gabion walls filled with local stones help extend this material language to the landscaping, serving to contain the hillside around the hotel without introducing elements that clash with the local scenery.

The establishment is entirely dedicated to accommodation and has a total of 20 rooms, distributed around a series of common and private areas. The ground floor houses the reception and some accommodation units, while the flat roof functions as a public space, providing a shared view of the neighboring mountains.

The second floor establishes a very close connection between the rooms and the landscape. Guests have access to terraces both on the front and rear facades. The front terraces offer a wide view of the mountain landscape, while the rear terraces connect directly with the hillside and exposed rock, allowing for a detailed observation of its texture. Inside the rooms, soaking tubs and integrated sinks are arranged in direct dialogue with the window, extending the visual connection to the outdoors even during the most intimate moments of the stay. This dual arrangement creates two distinct spatial experiences in the same type of room, maintaining a continuous link between the interior, the building, and the ground.

The top floor accommodates two larger suites, each equipped with a private kitchen and living room. These units offer a broader scale and greater privacy, serving as autonomous mountain retreats within the hotel.

The selection of internal colors and materials was made in direct consideration of the views framed by each window, ensuring that the internal palette complements rather than competes with the natural environment. This ensures that the mountains remain the visual focal point throughout all times of day and in all seasons.

Located in Vayots Dzor, one of Armenia's traditional wine regions, the Lele Hotel integrates with nearby vineyards and local wine production. The guest experience is enriched by the integration of the region's cultural landscape, through panoramic views, wine tastings, and proximity to historical landmarks.
