Documentary film on combating telecommunications fraud shown in Lawkka (Myanmar)

Authorities in Lawkka, the capital of the Kokang region in Shan State, northern Myanmar, organized a screening of a Chinese documentary film for officials and community workers. This film focuses on curbing telecommunications fraud in northern Myanmar as part of a public safety campaign.

The documentary, titled 'The Decline of Telecommunications Fraud in Northern Myanmar,' was co-produced by the China Media Group (CMG) and the Ministry of Public Security. It reveals the harsh conditions prevalent in areas where telecommunications fraud groups operated in northern Myanmar, and it details the actions of the Chinese police in dismantling major criminal syndicates operating in the region.

Lawkka, which borders China's Yunnan Province to the southwest, was previously home to numerous such fraudulent centers and was one of the main hotspots for telecommunications fraud in northern Myanmar. The film presents extensive material shot specifically in Lawkka, documenting the crimes committed by these groups and the subsequent operation to dismantle these criminal networks.

The film shows how China's fight against telecommunications fraud has contributed to restoring stability along the border between China and Myanmar, eliciting a strong reaction within Myanmar itself. One resident of Lawkka, who wished to remain anonymous, noted that the documentary helped people better understand the harm caused by telecommunications fraud.

This resident stated: 'It is very encouraging to see these cross-border fraud gangs being eliminated. It is the right thing to do, which helps protect countless families. The Chinese government clearly intends to combat these crimes. The residents of Lawkka should appreciate today's peace and stability.'
