Santarém Philharmonic Orchestra celebrates 13 years with concert mixing rock, sertanejo, and MPB

The Santarém Philharmonic Orchestra (OFS) will celebrate its 13th anniversary with a special concert scheduled for this Saturday, the 24th, at 8 p.m., at the House of Culture in Santarém, located in western Pará.

The show will feature instrumental reinterpretations of songs that have been important to various generations, uniting diverse musical genres within a symphonic structure.

The show's repertoire will include hits by artists such as Mamonas Assassinas, Chitãozinho & Xororó, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Nirvana, Engenheiros do Hawaii, Los Hermanos, and Djavan. The band's goal is to make orchestral music more accessible to the public by using popular and well-known songs while exploring new sounds and arrangements.

Founded in October 2013, the Santarém Philharmonic Orchestra is recognized as the municipality's first symphony orchestra. Since its creation, the project has worked on promoting instrumental music and fostering the cultural training of young musicians in the area.

The orchestra's evolution is intrinsically linked to the Santarém Philharmonic Music Academy, which is responsible for training its members. Currently, the group has approximately 50 musicians, under the direction of conductor Rafael Brito, performing pieces that integrate string, wind, and percussion instruments.

The project's inaugural presentation took place at the Municipal Chamber of Santarém, during a special ceremony honoring the 50th anniversary of the Municipal Philharmonic Professor José Agostinho. Since this initial milestone, the orchestra has expanded its activities in the local cultural landscape.
