The Oriximiná Menino Jesus Regional Hospital (HRMJ), located in the western region of Pará, organized an event focused on raising awareness about the prevention and early diagnosis of breast and cervical cancers. This initiative was held in observance of the Pink October campaign and gathered patients at the unit's outpatient clinic to receive crucial guidance on screening tests and necessary care for women's health.
The activities were conducted by nurses Louise Monteiro and Emily Farias, who used dynamics to engage the attending public. Nicia de Souza Barros, a resident of Oriximiná and housewife who was waiting for an appointment, took the opportunity to clarify her doubts, emphasizing the relevance of the program to consolidate knowledge about the prevention and early diagnosis of these diseases.
According to nurse Louise Monteiro, the primary objective of the meeting was to promote self-care and motivate women to continuously seek health services. This event is part of the project called 'Health Education,' which promotes regular lectures on various topics in the outpatient clinic. Sâmily Gemaque, coordinator of this project, noted that such an action contributes to strengthening the connection between health professionals and the local community.
The Oriximiná Menino Jesus Regional Hospital is recognized as a reference point for public assistance in the area and operates entirely under the Unified Health System (SUS). Its infrastructure includes ward beds, reception sector, and Intensive Care Unit (ICU), in addition to providing specialized exams such as tomography, ultrasound, endoscopy, and laboratory analyses.
