Parents of students have filed complaints against the Professora Amélia Ferreira Municipal School, located in Unamar, Tamoios district, in Cabo Frio, in the Rio Lakes Region, alleging the presence of mold, leaks, and negligence in structural repairs.
The guardians report that the 31 students in class 401 are being forced to study in the schoolyard, separated from the cafeteria only by a TNT divider. This change was imposed by the administration after closing the classroom due to mold and humidity problems.
The mothers demand the complete recovery of the environment, as they claim that the children have been showing respiratory problems. One mother warned that, in addition to mold and leaks, there is a risk of parts of the ceiling detaching, requesting urgent measures to ensure the safety of all attendees.
This same guardian stated: 'The classroom has mold, humidity, a lot of infiltration, and there is a risk of a piece of the ceiling falling on someone's head.' Other mothers organized to bring the situation to the competent authorities and demand improvements at the institution.
Another father reported that his son complained about the smell of mold and asked his mother to contact the administration. Upon inspecting the school, she found leaks and walls covered in fungi, and mentioned that the room floods during rainy periods. Although the wall was painted the week of the first round of elections, the problem persisted. The mother also complained about the absence of functioning fans and air conditioning units, citing that the school had promised to install new fans by October 15, a promise that was not kept.
According to this guardian, the equipment previously delivered was returned because it had an inadequate voltage. She added that she tried to seek solutions on the mayor's social media without receiving any response.
A third mother mentioned that her son, diagnosed with severe bronchitis and sinusitis, accumulates medical certificates and frequently misses classes due to health issues. The parents link the children's symptoms to the precarious conditions of the classroom. She reported that there were reports that rain hit the area temporarily used by the class, although she did not witness the event.
In response, the Municipal Education Secretariat informed that the roof had already been repaired, but the service did not yield the expected result, and the leaks returned. The responsible company was called again to make the adjustments stipulated in the contractual warranty. The new intervention is scheduled for the following week, depending on weather conditions. After repairing the roof, the secretariat plans to treat the wall affected by humidity and prepare the surface for the final painting. However, the official statement did not specifically detail the risk of ceiling collapse.
Regarding ventilation, the Secretariat communicated that the school will receive 23 fans. Furthermore, the air conditioning of the municipal network classrooms is planned within a finalized bidding process. The City Hall explained that the delay in delivering the fans occurred because the units supplied by the winning company in the bidding process had a different voltage than stipulated in the contract, leading to the return of the items. The supplier committed to making the replacement, but no new date was announced.
