South Korean astronomers concluded that the celestial objects depicted in Vincent van Gogh's famous painting 'The Starry Night' could have been actually visible to the artist in mid-July 1889. There is a hypothesis that the painting was created based on observations made during one or several consecutive nights.
The previously established dating of the painting to June of the same year proved inconsistent with the results of modeling the positions of celestial bodies. This study was published in the scientific journal Scientific Reports.
