Orlando Pirates defender Tapelo Khoki emphasized that the 'Bucaneers' will not let the tight schedule of three matches in eight days distract them from their main objective—securing progression in the CAF Champions League.
The team hosts 'African Stars' on Friday, holding a 1-0 advantage after the first game. Following this, they will switch focus to the Carlin Cup match against Milford on Tuesday, and then play in the Soweto Derby next Saturday.
Despite facing three important consecutive fixtures, Khoki believes the players are concentrating solely on finishing the job against 'African Stars' before thinking about subsequent games.
He noted: 'For us, we are directing all our energy and attention to the next game; it is an important match for the club. We want to qualify the club for the group stage; we have learned lessons from last season. We have an advantage, but we are playing at home, so everything depends on tomorrow's energy,' he stated.
The primary goal is to secure a spot in the CAF Champions League group stage, as the 'Pirates' are determined to avoid repeating the disappointment they experienced last season.
Even with an advantage, Khoki understands that the task is not yet complete. Playing at home gives the 'Pirates' a chance to end the series in front of fans, but the defender stressed that the team must demonstrate the necessary intensity in the confrontation.
The technical staff will also play an important role in supporting the team through this intense period, as the 'Pirates' must manage their approach without losing sight of the immediate task.
Khoki added: 'For us, it is a matter of the technical staff guiding us in the game, and after that, we will focus on these games when they arrive, but for now, it is all about African Stars.'
Once the series with 'African Stars' is concluded, the 'Pirates' will have little time to recover before the Carlin Cup match against 'Milford', which will be followed by one of the biggest matches in the national calendar against 'Kaiser Chiefs'.
Nevertheless, Khoki's message remains clear: the 'Pirates' are aware of the upcoming events, but their focus is firmly directed at 'African Stars' and the possibility of advancing in Africa's main club tournament.
