There might be a new title in the Star Wars Battlefront franchise in development. According to data released by Variety magazine and reported by the Push Square website, Electronic Arts (EA) would be working on Star Wars Battlefront 3 through a collaboration between DICE, the developer of Battlefield, and Respawn Entertainment, known for Apex Legends.
The information was gathered by several sources aware of the company's plans. However, as of now, EA has not provided official confirmation regarding the development of Battlefront 3.
This speculation gained more momentum after EA mentioned a partnership between the two studios in an internal communication regarding corporate reorganization. In this document, executives Cam Weber and David Tinson stated that Respawn and DICE will cooperate on a future project, although they did not reveal the game's name.
Sources from Variety indicate that this project would indeed be the next Star Wars Battlefront. DICE already has experience with the series, having created the games released in 2015 and 2017. Meanwhile, Respawn has participated in titles set in the Star Wars universe, such as Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.
The rumors emerged at a time of renewed interest in Star Wars Battlefront II, released in 2017. In 2025, the game registered a significant increase in players, which reignited conversations about the possibility of a sequel.
Furthermore, there were rumors that Lucasfilm was in contact with Bungie, the studio behind Destiny, to discuss a potential project related to the franchise, but none of these news items received official validation.
The news about Battlefront 3 comes amid major transformations at EA, which announced the closure of BioWare, responsible for Mass Effect and Dragon Age, as well as a restructuring expected to affect hundreds of employees. For now, there are no details about platforms, release dates, or features of the probable new game. Thus, Star Wars Battlefront 3 remains an unofficially confirmed project, despite reports about the involvement of two of EA's main shooter studios.
