Denmark officially finalized the purchase of missiles from manufacturers in the USA and Norway

Denmark today completed the formalization of the purchase of long-range missiles from manufacturers in Norway and the United States. This occurred a year after the country announced its intention to acquire high-precision long-range weaponry due to the threat from Russia.

The Danish Minister of Defence, Jeppe Bruun, detailed at a press conference that two different missile systems were acquired: attack missiles from the Norwegian company Kongsberg, which can be launched from F-35 fighters, and Anthem missiles from the American company Covenant, which are designed for ground launch. He did not specify the quantity of purchased missiles or the total cost of the deal, nor did he provide delivery timelines.

In September 2025, the Danish government justified the need for this type of weaponry, emphasizing then that the Russian threat would loom over Europe for a long time. Bruun noted that the country is in a situation of political insecurity where the future cannot be predicted.

This situation compels Denmark to possess new military potential to strengthen its own deterrence, as well as the collective deterrence of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), added the minister.

The announcement was made on the same day that an agreement was signed with the United States (USA) to enhance maritime cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the field of shipbuilding.

Russia's military aggression in Ukraine, which began on February 24, 2022, plunged Europe into a security crisis considered the most serious since World War II (1939–1945).
