Number of marriages in Uzbekistan over the last 35 years shows fluctuations, including a recent decline

Changes are observed in marriage trends in Uzbekistan over the past three and a half decades. After a period of decline that began in the 1990s, the number of registered marriages gradually increased, reaching its peak in 2018. Nevertheless, in recent years, a renewed decrease in the number of such registrations has been noted.

According to information from the National Committee on Statistics, 270.3 thousand marriages were registered in the republic in 1991. By 2000, this figure dropped to 168.9 thousand, which was the lowest value for the entire analyzed period.

The situation began to change in the early 2000s. In 2005, 184 thousand marriages were registered, and by 2010, the number of marriages grew to 292.3 thousand. In 2015, the figure was 287.6 thousand.

The maximum mark was recorded in 2018, when 311.4 thousand marriages were concluded in the country. The high level was maintained in 2021, when the number of marriages reached 305.2 thousand.

After this point, the number of registered marriages began to slowly decrease. In 2022, there were 296.7 thousand, and in 2023, 283.8 thousand. In 2024, the number fell to 271.8 thousand. Forecasts suggest that by the end of 2025, the figure will drop to 267.1 thousand, which will be slightly below the 1991 level.

In the first six months of 2026, 92.3 thousand marriages were registered in Uzbekistan; final data for the entire year 2026 will be available later. It was also noted that this year approximately 700 women in Uzbekistan married after reaching the age of 50.
