Under this major program, Uttar Pradesh provides financial support at every stage of a daughter's life, starting from her birth until she completes higher education. The benefit amount for each daughter has been increased from 15,000 to 25,000 rupees.
The 'Kanya Sumangala' program is a conditional cash transfer managed by the Department of Women and Child Development. It has been operational since April 1, 2019, and aims to support the health and education of girls at all crucial stages of their development.
Starting from the fiscal year 2024-25, each daughter receives a total sum of 25,000 rupees, distributed across six milestones:
- 5,000 rupees at birth
- 2,000 rupees after completing the full vaccination course
- 3,000 rupees upon entering the first grade
- 3,000 rupees upon entering the sixth grade
- 5,000 rupees upon entering the ninth grade
- 7,000 rupees upon enrolling in a bachelor's or diploma course after the twelfth grade
To receive the allowance, the family must reside in Uttar Pradesh and possess proof of residence, such as a ration card, Aadhaar, driver's license, or electricity/telephone bill. Furthermore, the family's annual income must not exceed 300,000 rupees.
A maximum of two children can benefit from one family, and the family must have no more than two children. However, if twins are born, the third daughter may also qualify. If the family adopts an orphan, the maximum number of beneficiaries will be two, including both the biological and adopted daughter.
Applications can be submitted online through the 'Government Services' section on the portal mksy.up.gov.in, where eligibility for the allowance can also be checked. This scheme incentivizes families to care for the health and continued education of their daughters, as the payments accumulate with payments for milestones such as vaccination and school enrollment, making it long-term support rather than a one-time payment.
