Marco Rubio and Mukesh Ambani Discuss Energy and Technology Partnerships in Jamnagar

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio visited the Reliance refinery in Jamnagar and spoke with Mukesh Ambani about potential commercial ties, energy supplies, technologies, data centers, and other issues.

On Tuesday, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Mukesh Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries (RIL), discussed a wide range of commercial cooperation during Rubio's visit to Jamnagar, which hosts the world's largest refinery complex operated by RIL in Gujarat.

According to an RIL social media post, the visit included extensive discussions on the global energy landscape and opportunities for commercial partnership in both traditional and new energy. Reliable and accessible energy sources, technological advancements, sustainable supply chains, and necessary investments to meet growing demand were discussed.

Mukesh Ambani, along with his son and RIL Executive Director Anant Ambani, gave a tour of the refinery complex for Rubio, who was on an official trip to India, as well as for the US Ambassador to India, Sergio Gora.

The company reported that Secretary Rubio and Ambassador Gora were shown Reliance's new energy gigafactories, which are currently being phased into operation, as well as under-construction data centers. The tour provided an overview of the company's investments in energy and digital infrastructure, combining its capabilities in advanced manufacturing and deep technology.

During the talks, Ambani also outlined the long-term vision for the Jamnagar complex and its development as a hub for deep technology, innovation, and advanced manufacturing. The parties also discussed the increasing intersection of energy and digital infrastructure, including the role of stable power supply in supporting data centers and expanding the digital economy.

Ambani shared his views on opportunities for collaboration with American companies, based on complementary strengths in technology, engineering, and advanced manufacturing. RIL noted that the interaction presented a constructive opportunity for exchanging industry insights and exploring areas of mutual commercial interest.

During his visit to India, Rubio highly praised India as a 'refining superpower' and sought to deepen energy cooperation, including increased refining of Venezuelan crude oil.

Marco Rubio visited Indian complex capable of processing Venezuela's heavy oil

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio visited a refinery complex in Jamnagar, India. This complex includes the world's largest refining facility, which is capable of processing heavy crude oil from Venezuela.

According to the American ambassador to India, Sergio Gora, who shared his impressions on the social network X, it was an honor to accompany Secretary Rubio to the facilities of Reliance Industries in Jamnagar.

During the visit, Rubio, his wife Jannette Rubio, and the ambassador accompanied almost the entire family of tycoon Mukesh Ambani—Asia's richest man. His son Anant Ambani and his wife were among those present, according to a photo published by the diplomat on X.

Reliance Industries stated in its announcement that the Ambani family presented a long-term vision for the Jamnagar complex. The visit also included comprehensive discussions on the global energy situation and possibilities for commercial cooperation in the energy sector.

According to the company, Mukesh Ambani and his son Anant spent hours meeting with Rubio and Gora to discuss ensuring 'reliable and affordable energy supply.'

This visit to the complex, through which much of the crude oil imported by New Delhi from Moscow passes, took place after Rubio called India an 'energy processing superpower' on Tuesday and announced intentions to discuss a plan to process more Venezuelan oil at this facility.

The facilities in Jamnagar are one of the few petrochemical infrastructures globally technically designed to handle ultra-heavy Venezuelan crude oil, known as Merey 16. Previously, Reliance was one of the largest global buyers of Venezuelan oil before international sanctions were imposed.

In June, the complex in India was also visited by the interim President of Venezuela, Dilcy Rodríguez. The visit occurred against the backdrop of a sharp rise in diesel prices in the United States ahead of midterm elections.

In March, US President Donald Trump announced that Reliance would create a partnership to build the first and largest refinery in the US in 50 years in Brownsville, Texas.

Before traveling to the coastal city of Gujarat, Rubio met in Bombay with Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani, and subsequently with N. Chandrasekaran, chairman of Tata Sons—from the Tata Group. These businessmen are considered among the wealthiest and most influential in the country, according to the local agency PTI.
