Water shortage at Har Ki Pauri in Haridwar due to Ganges canal repairs disappoints pilgrims

Pilgrims who arrived in Haridwar to bathe in the Ganges faced disappointment due to the lack of water at Har Ki Pauri. The Ganges canal was closed for 18 days for annual cleaning and repair work, leading to the absence of water at Har Ki Pauri.

Har Ki Pauri is one of the main ghats in Haridwar, where a large number of people traditionally come to bathe in the Ganges. However, visitors are currently unable to find water for bathing. The lack of water at Har Ki Pauri is related to the closure of the Ganges canal, which forces those wishing to dip in the Ganges to feel disappointed.

Every year, the Ganges canal is closed for cleaning and repair work. Necessary work is carried out during this period. In particular, within this closure, work related to the upcoming Kumbh Mela in 2027 is being conducted.

Currently, the season for pilgrims from Bengal is in Haridwar. During this time, a large number of people flock here for a bath in the Ganges. But due to the lack of water at Har Ki Pauri, their expectations proved to be in vain.

Some pilgrims who came to Haridwar with the intention of bathing in the Ganges reported that upon arrival, they discovered the Ganges canal was closed for repair and cleaning, which caused them disappointment. They stated that if they cannot bathe in the Ganges, they will at least perform Achhaman, trying to satisfy their faith by sprinkling Ganges water.

Against the backdrop of the lack of water at Har Ki Pauri, some people are observed on the banks searching for coins, money, and other items. These people search for coins and other things that pilgrims throw into the Ganges. Even after the canal's closure, they continue to search for items on the dry ground. On one hand, pilgrims are disappointed by the lack of water for bathing in the Ganges, and on the other hand, people searching for coins and other items are busy looking.

The Ganges canal serves as an important water source for Delhi and the state of Uttar Pradesh. It was closed for 18 days for cleaning and repair work. During this time, work related to the Kumbh Mela, which will take place in 2027, is also being carried out. According to the planned schedule, the canal will reopen at midnight on November 7. After that, the water level at Har Ki Pauri will depend on the start of the flow in the canal.
