Amid growing competition in the 250cc segment in India, Bajaj Auto has officially released its new Pulsar N250SS model shortly before the Diwali festival. This motorcycle is equipped with an attractive design, a powerful engine, and modern features, with a starting price set at 1.59 lakh rupees (excluding taxes).
Compared to the existing Pulsar N250, the new model features more functions. Notably, despite the updates, the price of this model remains significantly lower than that of its competitors. Bajaj introduced the Pulsar N250SS as a top variant of the existing N250, making changes to both the engine and technological equipment.
Previously, Bajaj applied a similar update strategy to the SS variant of the Pulsar N160 this year, and now the company has transferred this concept to its 250cc class motorcycle.
The new Pulsar N250SS has become more powerful thanks to the updated 249cc air and oil-cooled engine. It now features a four-valve head, allowing the engine to generate 25 hp and 22 Nm of torque. This exceeds the figures of the standard Pulsar N250, which produces 24.5 hp and 21.5 Nm. Although the increase in power and torque is slight, the rider may not notice it while driving.
The most significant change concerns the gearbox: instead of a five-speed transmission in the standard model, a six-speed unit is now installed. Additionally, the package includes a factory Quickshifter, which allows the rider to shift up gears without using the clutch.
The new Pulsar is also equipped with an electronic throttle body, enabling the selection of various riding modes that can be adapted to road conditions. Such a feature is usually found in larger and premium models.
The instrument cluster has been modernized: the old LCD display has been replaced by a 5-inch TFT display. This display supports Google Maps mirroring, allowing the rider to view navigation information directly on the screen. The main advantage of this feature is that the rider does not need to constantly look at their mobile phone for navigation prompts.
In addition, the new model includes adjustable levers, a USB Type-C charging port, an anti-panic braking warning system, and an emergency signal switch. No other structural changes were made to the motorcycle.
As mentioned earlier, the N250SS (priced at 1.59 lakh rupees) is more affordable compared to its competitors. Direct rivals to this model include motorcycles such as the Suzuki Gixxer 250 (1.85 lakh rupees) and the Hero Xtreme 250 R (1.98 lakh rupees). Nevertheless, the N250SS itself is about 14,000 rupees more expensive than the standard version.
