Apple announces new MacBook Pros with touch OLED displays and OLED iPad mini at 'Pro and Tell' event

Apple is preparing to unveil a new line of MacBook Pros featuring touch tandem OLED displays next week. According to verified leaks, a range of updated 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models will be presented at the 'Pro and Tell' event on October 28th.

This will be the first time Apple releases laptops with touch control—a feature that has been standard among competitors for over a decade. Despite Apple traditionally being slow to adopt existing hardware trends, these touch MacBooks are highly anticipated. Apple fans are eagerly awaiting how touch functionality will integrate into macOS, given the immense popularity of the iPad lineup.

The integration of touch control will allow macOS users to utilize various new gestures previously only available in iPadOS and iOS. Simultaneously, the new tandem OLED displays will significantly enhance visual quality, providing higher contrast, more accurate color reproduction, and better energy efficiency.

Although early reports suggested a thinner chassis for the new Pro models, recent leaks indicate that the overall profile will remain similar, though the laptops are expected to become noticeably lighter. Regarding design, the controversial camera cutout is finally being replaced by the Dynamic Island, which has been an integral part of flagship iPhones since the release of the iPhone 14 Pro series in September 2022.

Despite these significant changes in design and displays, the internal components will remain familiar: the high-performance 14-inch and 16-inch laptops will continue to run on the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips introduced earlier this year. However, Apple will update the base model MacBook Pro 14-inch with the new M6 chip, officially replacing the M5 chip that debuted a year ago. A modest performance boost is also planned for the 24-inch iMac, which will receive the latest generation M6 processor.

In contrast, the iPad mini will receive a major upgrade. The compact tablet will be equipped with an OLED panel matching the latest iPad Pro generation, although there are conflicting reports on whether it will feature a standard 60Hz display or a ProMotion 120Hz display. Finally, the industrial design of the iPad mini will undergo noticeable changes, transitioning to an innovative system of vibration speakers that generate sound directly through the frame.
