Olhar Digital News Review from October 20, 2026

The Olhar Digital news digest from Tuesday, October 20, presented several significant events. Specifically, an investigation is underway in São Paulo regarding a leak of confidential data from the Smart Sampa system, which allowed unauthorized access to over 58 thousand surveillance cameras.

The leak occurred after sensitive information was made publicly available on the internet for approximately 11 months. This data enabled viewing images of people and vehicles on the streets of the state capital of São Paulo, as well as video footage from cameras installed in kindergartens, hospitals, and drug rehabilitation centers.

Furthermore, the Meta Oversight Board criticized recurring deficiencies in the moderation of political content during the Brazilian elections. In a statement published this Tuesday, the body demanded greater transparency and consistency in the company's decisions, as they may restrict legitimate political speech or fail to ensure the integrity of the electoral process.

In the field of medicine, researchers from the USA have developed an artificial intelligence system capable of assessing biological age and predicting survival chances for cancer patients using just one selfie photograph. This system was trained on a database of over 40 million facial photographs of people of different ages and ethnic groups.

A potentially dangerous space maneuver was also reported: the company LeoLabs, which tracks orbital objects, announced a possible space pursuit. A Russian military satellite allegedly performed maneuvers to approach commercial US equipment that provides imagery for Ukraine. On September 30, the Kosmos 2612 satellite was approximately 483 kilometers away from the American ICEYE-X36, but in recent days, this distance has narrowed to a few hundred meters.
