Tehran Museum of Modern Art uploads online collection of 1000 works

The head of the Tehran Museum of Modern Art (TMoCA) announced the availability of viewing the museum's collection online. This step was taken ahead of the institution's 50th anniversary to facilitate access for enthusiasts and increase the transparency of the museum's operations, noted Reza Dabirinezhad.

According to Dabirinezhad, one of the main tasks of museums is to ensure public access to their cultural and artistic heritage through various tools, allowing people to familiarize themselves with these works. He added that the TMoCA collection has always generated great interest among connoisseurs of culture and art, but the lack of a permanent exhibition sometimes raised questions and ambiguities. Therefore, the decision was made to gradually make the TMoCA collection available in open online access.

Dabirinezhad emphasized that approximately a thousand works from the collection have been uploaded to the official website in anticipation of the museum's 50th anniversary. He specified that the remaining works will be gradually added in the coming weeks, and their information will be completed. He also highlighted the importance of involving experts and enthusiasts to clarify data, noting that the online exhibition provides an opportunity to supplement information about the works more fully and accurately through the participation of interested parties and specialists.

Furthermore, the museum director announced plans to create a permanent exhibition space. He stated that the museum intends to equip a permanent section soon to ensure continuous access to selected and significant works for both tourists and art lovers.

Interested parties can view the works and accompanying information by visiting the official website of the Tehran Museum of Modern Art at www.tmoca.com.

Founded in 1977, the museum houses over 4000 items, including world-class paintings, engravings, drawings, and sculptures from the 19th and 20th centuries, created by Iranian, European, and American artists. As the largest collection of Western art in the East, it covers almost all artistic periods and movements.

The museum building was designed by Iranian architect Kamran Diboy, who incorporated elements of traditional Persian architecture. The building itself can be considered an example of modern art in the style of the underground Guggenheim Museum. Most of the museum's territory is located underground, featuring a circular path descending below and galleries extending outwards. In the museum gardens, Western sculptures by masters such as Ernst, Jacquemati, Magritte, and Moore can be found.
