During the Vijayadashami celebrations in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra state, a demonstration took place that drew public attention to the issues and demands for men's rights. The organization 'Pati Phidit Pur Muj' (Men harmed by women) conducted the symbolic burning of Shurpanakha.
As part of this symbolic act, the organization demanded that the government establish a special commission for men. Representatives of the Ashram argue that just as there are commissions and a judicial system to protect women's rights and safety, an independent commission is necessary to hear men's problems and ensure them justice.
The 'Pati Phidit Pur Muj' Ashram, located in Waluj, has been addressing men's rights issues for the past fifteen years. According to the organization's chairman, Bharat Phullare, the demand for a men's commission through the burning of Shurpanakha has been raised during every Vijayadashami celebration for the last ten years. The organization considers this event a symbol of its movement.
Bharat Phullare explained that similar to how the burning of Ravana during Dussehra symbolizes the victory of good over evil, the organization seeks to convey its position to the government through the burning of Shurpanakha, protesting against negative trends among women. The Ashram states that this performance is aimed at drawing attention to the alleged injustice faced by men.
Emphasizing the need for a men's commission, Bharat Phullare stated that some laws created to protect women are allegedly being misused. He noted that this creates difficulties not only for men but also for their families. Phullare stressed that a woman is not always right in every case; in some instances, men can also face injustice. Therefore, it is crucial to listen to their complaints, understand their problems, and provide them with the opportunity to achieve justice. The organization's demand is the creation of an independent men's commission to review men's complaints and issues. The Ashram believes that this way, men will be provided with a separate platform to present their views and receive justice.
'Pati Phidit Pur Muj' made it clear that their fight will continue until a men's commission is established. According to the organization's chairman, Bharat Phullare, the demand, which has been raised through the burning of Shurpanakha for ten years, will continue in the future. This demonstration, held during Vijayadashami, was another attempt by the organization to draw attention to men's rights and the necessity of establishing a separate commission for them.
