Bafana Bafana legend, Dr. Humalo, announced that his appointment as deputy chairman of the Safa technical committee is not for personal gain but solely to assist in the development of South African football.
Humalo's appointment was announced by Safa president Danny Jordan following the induction of new members of the National Executive Committee (NEC) and the election of new vice-presidents: Linda Zwein, Natasha Ciklas, and Tankiso Modipy, who holds the position for the first time.
Humalo will collaborate with chairman Jack Maluleke, one of the longest-serving NEC members. Their joint responsibilities include appointing all national team coaches, implementing training methodologies, and analyzing team performances overall.
In his role, Humalo will oversee technical director Molefi Ntseki, who is the direct supervisor of coaches, including Bafana Bafana tactician Pitso Mosimane, who recently joined the team.
Speaking on the Game On program on Radio 2000 on Monday evening, the day after his appointment, Humalo discussed how he learned about the appointment and what he thinks about it. He noted that the appointment was a surprise to him and thanked everyone who made it possible, including the NEC, Jordan, PSL executives Irvine Khosu and Kaiser Moutanga, his family, and South African football fans.
He emphasized that this path is related not to him personally, but to the demands of the game itself, as well as the desires of South Africans, rather than the interests of individuals or the association, but rather the future of South African football.
Humalo, who is respected across the country, continent, and world for his outstanding past football talents, confirmed his capabilities by obtaining coaching qualifications, including a UEFA B license.
Over the years, he has gained off-field experience, serving as an assistant coach at his youth club Kaizer Chiefs and as a technical director at Baroka. Additionally, he works as an analyst for SABC Sport.
Humalo expressed hope for a collective approach to the upcoming work, stating that the decision does not belong only to him. He believes that together they can achieve success because it concerns the nation of Mzansi.
He confirmed that he has undergone coaching courses both in the country and abroad and possesses the necessary capabilities to fulfill the tasks. Although the association provided him with a platform, the demands of the game will determine the further course. Humalo reported that he has not yet met with the senior management of Safa to discuss group goals and his personal objectives.
Nevertheless, he knows that all structures deserve attention. Humalo noted that he has been following the national and other national teams, as well as development structures and Banyana Banyana. He highly praised Safa, noting that the development structures have achieved outstanding results, but stressed the need to maintain and nurture talent.
He added that something is needed to solve the problems of these programs, and although he is unsure of the current plans since he has not visited the office or received a mandate, he can only speak from the perspective of prospects.
With his appointment, Humalo hopes that similar attention will be paid to a larger number of coaches and former players so that they can contribute to South African football. He stated that it would be very valuable to involve former players and not forget the coaches who contributed to the development of South African football, giving them the opportunity to share their views, which he called a collective effort.
