Cold decreases in the South, but rains and storms return on Wednesday in the North and Northeast

The cold air mass that affected the Southern Region on Monday (19) caused thermometers to register -0.5 °C in Santa Catarina and contributed to the formation of frost in the mountainous areas.

According to Inmet, the climate scenario will remain contrasting in the coming days: the South Atlantic Convergence Zone (ZCAS) will maintain rainfall in parts of the North and Northeast, while the South prepares for the return of precipitation, as reported by the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet).

The lowest temperature recorded by Inmet this Monday was -0.5 °C in Bom Jardim da Serra, located in the Morro da Igreja region of Santa Catarina. Although this value is significant for October, it does not constitute a monthly record. Other cities also presented temperatures close to zero, such as General Carneiro (PR), with 0.2 °C, and Soledade (RS), with 1.1 °C.

On Tuesday, the weather will remain stable in the Southern Region, with a chance of frost in eastern Rio Grande do Sul and in the Santa Catarina mountains. However, the situation will change on Wednesday, when showers and thunderstorms are expected in western Paraná and Santa Catarina, as well as in northwestern Rio Grande do Sul. Inmet issued a yellow warning of potential danger for storms in these locations.

This climatic change is due to the movement of a high-pressure area towards the Atlantic and the influence of low-pressure areas in the interior of South America. This combination favors the arrival of warmer and humid air to the south-central part of the country, creating the necessary conditions for new storms.

Rains should persist in areas of the North and Northeast due to the ZCAS, a cloud band that covers various regions of Brazil and transports humidity, promoting prolonged periods of rain.

In the North, there is an expectation of showers and thunderstorms in most of the region, with alerts for potential danger of heavy rain in different states. Despite the forecast of precipitation, Boa Vista may reach a maximum of 37 °C.

In the Northeast, rain should focus mainly on the south-central part of Maranhão, southwestern Piauí, and areas of Bahia on Tuesday. Southern Bahia, including Porto Seguro, is under orange alert due to the large volumes of rain expected. For Wednesday, the sun should appear in most of the region, although there is still a possibility of rain in some coastal points and in southern Bahia.

In the Central-West, the heat intensifies during the afternoon, with projected highs of 36 °C in Cuiabá and 33 °C in Campo Grande on Wednesday. There is also a possibility of rain in certain areas of Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul, while other locations should have firm weather.

In the Southeast, Tuesday will be marked by stable weather in most of the region. In the morning, fog may occur in eastern São Paulo and southern Rio de Janeiro. On Wednesday, the sky tends to be cloudier, with chances of isolated rain in most of the state. The forecast does not point to precipitation for western and northern São Paulo nor for the Triângulo Mineiro.
