Can a football tournament change the life of a small county? In the village of Zhongjiang, located in Guizhou Province, 137 teams from various villages gathered to participate in an unusual competition known as 'Cun Chao' or 'Village Super League.'
The participants are ordinary villagers, but this tournament attracts spectators not only from China but also from other countries. One local resident, Dong Yunheng, owner of a small snack bar, has become a local football star. His growing popularity has helped his modest business transform into a large local restaurant.
In the CGTN documentary titled 'Breaking Through,' Spanish journalist Javier Garcia visited Zhongjiang to find out how grassroots football is creating new opportunities for local communities.
