Toyota Corolla resumes sale of all versions after stock normalization

The Toyota Corolla has resumed being sold in its complete lineup at dealerships across the country following the normalization of stocks. This situation occurs two months after the sedan gained a monthly leadership dispute against the BYD King.

According to Toyota itself, the vehicle shortage resulted from a scheduled technical stop intended for transferring production from the Indaiatuba unit to Sorocaba, both located in the interior of São Paulo. The Indaiatuba factory, which manufactured the Corolla since 1998, ceased operations on June 30, having produced over one million automobiles. To manage this transition, Toyota created an advance stock of the model.

Supply had already been compromised since September 2025, when an atmospheric microexplosion—characterized as strong downward wind from a thunderstorm cloud—damaged Toyota's engine factory in Porto Feliz, in the state of São Paulo. By using imported engines, the automaker managed to restart production in November of that year, initially only with hybrid versions.

The 2.0 engine used in the combustion versions is still imported, as the Porto Feliz factory has not resumed its production. Even with priority given to hybrid models, they remained difficult to find, with waiting times reaching ninety days.

The effects of this situation were visible in the records of the National Federation of Automotive Vehicle Distribution (Fenabrave). In August, the King registered 1,433 registrations, surpassing the Corolla's 855. In September, the difference widened, with the BYD's plug-in hybrid sedan reaching 1,666 units, compared to 474 units of the Corolla.

Despite this, the Toyota sedan maintains the annual accumulated lead, exceeding 16 thousand units up to September, which represents approximately three thousand more units than its direct competitor. The Corolla has held the category lead since 2014. The return to full supply coincides with the 60th anniversary of the Corolla, which was launched in Japan in 1966.

Currently, the Corolla line features four options. The combustion versions, XEi (priced at R$ 178,990) and Altis Premium (priced at R$ 208,990), use a 2.0 flex engine, which generates 175 hp on ethanol and 167 hp on gasoline, plus 21.3 kgfm. All these versions are equipped with a CVT automatic transmission, which operates without fixed gears.

The hybrid versions, GLi HEV (R$ 196,990) and Altis Premium Hybrid (R$ 211,990), combine a 1.8 flex engine of 101 hp and 14.5 kgfm with two electric motors, totaling a power of 122 hp.
