Tiggo 5X leads lowest depreciation ranking; Toyota registers four models in the top 10

Buying a new vehicle and reselling it after one year generally involves a financial loss, but certain models show significantly less depreciation. An analysis conducted by AutoPapo, using data from the Fipe Table, revealed that the Caoa Chery Tiggo 5X suffered only a 3.9% depreciation over a 12-month period.

Following it were the Toyota Corolla Cross, with a 5.8% loss, and the Volkswagen Taigun, registering 7.1% depreciation. The calculation method compared the price of each zero-kilometer version in June 2025 with the value of a used vehicle of the same line and model in June 2026. When the model was already available as the 2026 line that month, the comparison was made with the used vehicle corresponding to the 2026 line. The presented results are the average of the respective versions of each car.

The survey considered only models that accumulated a minimum of one thousand registrations between January and September 2026, as reported by the consultancy K.LUME, excluding utility vehicles. In the overall market picture, the average depreciation reached 15.5%.

The good performance of the Tiggo 5X is attributed to a combination of three elements. Firstly, the comparison base: in April 2025, upon introducing the 2026 line, Caoa Chery reduced the price by R$ 8 thousand across all its versions, causing the SUV to start being sold from R$ 119,990.

Secondly, the reverse movement occurred: since June 2025, the zero-kilometer price on Fipe increased between 6% and 7.5%, depending on the version, and the used value followed this trend. Finally, the 2026 line received intermediate updates; in July, the Pro versions were equipped with a new multimedia center, and the Sport received 18-inch wheels, all without a price change. Many of the currently evaluated used vehicles already incorporate these features.

Among the top ten, the Corolla Cross, Corolla, Hilux SW4, and Hilux stand out. Toyota excels as the only manufacturer with more than two listed models. In the evaluation, the brand also showed the lowest average depreciation among those with at least 15 analyzed versions, reaching 9.2% across all its cars, compared to the market average of 15.5%.

This result reaffirms an established tradition: the reputation for durability, built over decades with models like Corolla and Hilux, maintains high demand for the brand's pre-owned vehicles. Furthermore, the warranty reinforces this perception. Through the Toyota 10 program, the five-year factory coverage is extended with every service performed in the network, adding another 12 months or 10,000 kilometers, up to ten years or 200,000 kilometers. This benefit is available for cars manufactured from 2020 onwards, at no extra cost.

Demand also influences positively. The Hilux is the most registered mid-size pickup in the country in 2026, with 33.5 thousand units registered from January to September, surpassing the Ford Ranger and Chevrolet S10, according to K.LUME. The Corolla Cross was the first 2026 model in Brazil, launched in January 2025 with a new multimedia center and the option of extended warranty up to ten years.

Regarding the Hilux, it has the largest number of available versions, totaling ten out of eleven sold in June 2025. Meanwhile, the Volkswagen Taigun entered the market in June 2025 and demonstrated the most stable result on the list, as its four versions lost between 5.9% and 8.6%. At launch, the compact SUV generated 12 thousand orders in the first 50 minutes of sales, as disclosed by Volkswagen, and was the fifth most registered model in the country from January to September this year.
