The Chery QQ was one of the Chinese manufacturer's first ventures into Brazil, appearing in the early 2010s. This small vehicle, offered at an attractive price, had a quality that drew criticism. Despite the negative aspects, it managed to put the brand name in the public's mind.
Chery underwent a transformation in the country after partnering with Caoa Group and introducing the successful Tiggo line. This good history facilitated the entry of other brands such as Jetour, Omoda, Jaecoo, and eventually iCAUR.
However, the QQ may return to Brazil, presenting a significantly more modern and refined version. In China, the QQ is a line focused on electrified compact models. Although there is no official confirmation yet about its debut in Brazil, attention was drawn to the fact that the car was displayed alongside the iCAUR V23, V25, and V27 models on the assembly line located in Wuhu, China.
Technical details and positioning of the QQ3
According to Chery information, the QQ3 was positioned next to the other models because it shares the same platform as the iCAUR SUVs, which integrates the group's complex of 20 factories. However, this display was intentional, aiming to assess the reaction of the press and dealers who visited the production line.
The QQ3 is a hatchback with a length of 4.19 meters and a wheelbase of 2.70 meters (the same as the V23). Its design is clearly inspired by the EX2, including C-pillar details very similar to those of the best-selling model in the Chinese market.
This model is equipped with a 122 hp engine and a 41.2 kWh battery. Chery states that its range reaches 420 km (based on the Chinese cycle). Additionally, it has the capacity to recharge from 30% to 80% in less than 17 minutes using a DC charging station.
Internally, the hatchback impresses with the quality of materials and interior space. Among the available features are a digital instrument panel, a multimedia system with a large screen, and driver assistance systems. The model shows no similarities to the old QQ, except for the name.
Therefore, if Chery decides to commercialize this model in Brazil, which would represent a great opportunity to compete at the base of the segment contested by vehicles such as BYD Dolphin, Dolphin Mini, Geely EX2, and GAC Aion UT, it would be advisable for it to receive a new name. This is because the old QQ left an impression in the minds of Brazilians, albeit not a positive one.
