The RAM components and storage chips for the PlayStation 6 (PS6) could generate costs exceeding US$ 680, which is equivalent to approximately R$ 3,400 in direct conversion for Sony. This information was disclosed by an informant identified as KeplerL2, who often shares preliminary data about AMD hardware.
According to a post on the NeoGAF forum, the estimated cost refers exclusively to the RAM and NAND storage. It is important to note that this rumor does not detail other essential elements for the console's operation, such as the processor, nor does it provide data on specific suppliers or contracts. Therefore, the presented value remains a speculation not confirmed by Sony itself.
Although the company is developing the next generation of the PlayStation, it has not yet communicated details about the price or release date. Rumors point to a possible announcement in 2028, but component costs may change until that date.
Recent market data provides context for this situation. A report issued by the business consultancy TrendForce predicted contractual increases of up to 15% in DRAM chip prices during the fourth quarter of 2026, compared to the previous quarter. For NAND flash, the projection indicates growth between 15% and 20%.
The consultancy points out that manufacturers are maintaining priority on production capacity allocated to servers, driven by high demand for artificial intelligence infrastructure. This focus affects the supply available for other sectors, including video game consoles.
The prospect of an expensive PS6, possibly above US$ 1,000 (which would exceed R$ 5,000), is also linked to Sony's commercial strategy. In a meeting with investors in June, the company stated that it does not plan to absorb increases in component costs and has no intention of marketing hardware with significant financial losses.
If the PS6 is launched in the United States at this price, it could be sold in Brazil for over R$ 8,000, considering the combination of taxes, fees, and the exchange rate observed between the current prices of the PS5 line in both countries. As a reference point, after the price adjustment applied to the PS5 in Brazil in April, the suggested values were set at R$ 4,599.90 for the Digital Edition, R$ 5,099.90 for the disc drive model, and R$ 7,499.90 for the PS5 Pro.
Despite this, analysts cited by the VGC website present divergent opinions on whether the new console generation will exceed the US$ 1,000 mark, keeping this level as merely a projection without official validation from Sony.
