Silver and gold prices sharply dropped: silver fell by 14,000 rubles, gold by 3,500 rubles

A significant decline in the prices of gold and silver was observed last week. Both precious metals became considerably more affordable on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) exchange.

On the futures market, the cost of one kilogram of silver decreased by more than 14,000 rupees, and the precious metal itself became cheaper by 2.08 lakh rupees per kilogram compared to its historical high. At the same time, the price of 10 grams of 24-carat gold dropped by 3,500 rupees for every 10 grams.

Considering the fall in the futures price of silver on MCX, it should be noted that 1 kg of silver with an expiration date of December 4 closed at 2,11,418 rupees last Friday. On the second-to-last working day of the previous week, this metal was priced at 2,25,755 rupees per kilogram. Thus, over five trading days, silver decreased in price by 14,337 rupees per kilogram.

Following this drop, the futures price of silver became even more accessible compared to record levels. In January, the silver futures rate exceeded the mark of 4 lakh rupees, reaching a peak of 4,20,048 rupees per kilogram. However, a subsequent crash in prices occurred, and the current decrease shows that the price of silver has fallen by 2,08,630 rupees per kilogram from its peak level.

The decrease in silver prices was recorded not only on the futures market but also on the domestic market. According to data published on the Indian Bullion Jewelers Association (IBJA.Com) website, on October 9, 1 kg of silver cost 2,21,109 rupees in the domestic market. By last Friday, this price had decreased by 10,191 rupees, amounting to 2,10,918 rupees per kilogram.

As for the precious yellow metal—gold—its price also showed a decline over the last five trading days. On MCX, on the futures market with an expiration date of December 4, 10 grams of 24-carat gold cost 1,51,499 rupees on October 9. By last Friday, this price fell to 1,48,000 rupees, which represents a decrease of 3,499 rupees for 10 grams over five days.

Similarly, the price of gold decreased on the domestic market as well as on the futures market. After the close of trading last Friday, the price of 10 grams of gold was 1,46,426 rupees for 10 grams. Earlier, at the end of the previous week, it was 1,49,430 rupees for 10 grams. Thus, according to IBJA Gold Rate data, there was a fall of 3,004 rupees for 10 grams. It should be noted that when purchasing gold jewelry in jewelers' shops, making charges and 3% GST must be paid.

Silver and gold prices fall: Silver dropped by 200 thousand rupees from its peak, gold also decreased

The trend of falling prices for gold and silver continues. Prices for precious metals, which sharply dropped on Monday, continued to decline on Tuesday.

On the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), the price of silver fell by more than 3300 rupees per kilogram, after which silver became cheaper than its historical high by more than 200 thousand rupees. Gold also showed a decrease in value.

Additionally, changes were observed in gold futures prices on MCX. Although the rate of decline for this yellow metal was not as sharp as that of silver, the gold contract expiring on December 4 closed at 1,49,543 rupees on the previous business day. On Tuesday, the price fell to 1,48,550 rupees, which is a decrease of 993 rupees.

On the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), the price of gold instantly dropped from over 1400 rupees per 10 grams. Simultaneously, the cost of one kilogram of silver fell below 2.25 lakh rupees, reaching a level significantly lower than its historical high.

Sharp drop in gold price

Meanwhile, at the end of the previous trading week, it closed at 1,51,499 rupees. According to calculations, 10 grams of 24-carat gold lost 1443 rupees in one day.

Significant decrease in silver cost

Analyzing the changes in silver futures prices after gold, it is visible that the price of silver with an expiry date of December 4 on MCX reached 2,24,326 rupees per kilogram on the first working day of the week. Previously, at the end of the last trading week, this precious metal was trading at a price of 2,25,755 rupees per kilogram. Thus, like gold, silver became more affordable for buyers, dropping by more than 1400 rupees per kilogram.

Silver is significantly cheaper than its historical high

Following this trend of weakening prices for precious metals, it is particularly noticeable that 1 kg of silver is selling significantly cheaper than its record level. At the end of January last month, the silver futures price exceeded the historical threshold of 4 lakh rupees for the first time, reaching 4,20,048 rupees. However, this was followed by a collapse in silver prices, and after the recent fall, it now stands 1,95,722 rupees lower than its peak value.

Dynamics of gold and silver prices in recent months

Over the last month and a half, there have been significant fluctuations in the prices of gold and silver. Analyzing this volatility, it can be noted that the price of 10 grams of gold on MCX, which was 1,55,484 rupees on August 31, decreased to 1,49,036 rupees by September 30. Nevertheless, thanks to the rise in October, the price traded at 1,50,056 rupees on Monday, despite the daily drop.

Silver's behavior is similar to gold's behavior

The trend in silver futures trading from August 31 to Monday, October 12, also resembled the movement of gold. However, on Monday, despite the sharp fall, the price traded at 2,24,326 rupees, which is higher than at the end of September.

Gold price sharply drops: new quotes for 10 grams

On Monday, the first working day of the week, significant fluctuations were observed in the prices of gold and silver. In the futures market, gold became cheaper. The price of gold expiring on December 4 dropped to 1,48,850 rupees per 10 grams, compared to 1,50,390 rupees at which it closed last Friday. Thus, gold lost 1540 rupees per 10 grams in a single move.

The decline continued in the domestic market. According to data from the Indian Bullion Jewelers Association website, the price of 24-carat gold for 10 grams was 1,48,138 rupees last Friday, and on Monday it decreased to 1,47,785 rupees, representing a decrease of 353 rupees.

In the domestic market, the price of silver increased from 2,20,829 rupees per kilogram to 2,22,934 rupees.

Despite the rise in silver prices on Monday, this precious metal remains available at a relatively low price compared to its historical high. In the futures market, silver peaked at 4,20,048 rupees per kilogram in January, and it is currently priced 1,92,954 rupees lower than that level.

It is important to note that although the gold prices published on the IBJA website are uniform across the country, when purchasing jewelry in a salon, the buyer must add 3% GST, as well as pay for manufacturing, which increases the final cost of the metal.
