Mercedes-Benz expands US recall for S-Class due to brake hose failure

Mercedes-Benz has expanded a recall in the United States to a total of 30,064 vehicles, prompted by a detected failure in the front brake hose. This recall covers S-Class sedans, including Mercedes-AMG and Mercedes-Maybach variants, manufactured up to November 28, 2024.

According to the document submitted by the manufacturer to the NHTSA, the U.S. traffic safety agency, the combination of heat and mechanical stress can weaken the hose over time, leading to leaks or even rupture. A leak results in the depletion of one of the two hydraulic brake systems, which reduces braking effectiveness and increases the distance required to stop the vehicle.

When the fluid level reaches a level below the permitted limit, a red warning indicator is activated on the instrument panel. This new campaign complements a recall initiated in February 2025, which initially covered 20,339 S-Class units. At that time, Mercedes justified the problem with a specific production period and vehicles used in hot and humid climates, citing large parts of Brazil, among others.

However, after an analysis conducted in July of this year, the manufacturer determined that all automobiles produced before the implementation of a modified hose are subject to this defect. The brand registered three occurrences in the U.S., recorded in April, May, and August, none of which resulted in accidents.

The S 580 4Matic model represents the largest portion of the recall, totaling 16,881 units, followed by the S 500 4Matic with 7,143 examples. The list of affected vehicles also includes the plug-in hybrid S 580 and 4Matic (2,277), the Mercedes-AMG S 63 E Performance (1,746), and the Mercedes-Maybach S 680 4Matic (1,070) and S 580 4Matic (947) models.

Owners will receive the recall notification by November 27. At dealerships, the two front hoses will be replaced with a reinforced part at no cost to the consumer. Although the S-Class is also sold in Brazil, Mercedes-Benz has not yet announced a recall for this model in the country.
